HEAVEN KNOWS - A Short Story (Languages)

Updated on January 21, 2015

Up, up and away we can go.

Being caught up to ascend to Heaven is a goal worth pursuing.

There remain some problems. Fortunately we have eternity to work them out.

Newcomers just arriving in Heaven are surprised that I know their every thought.

The explanation is what on Earth was called "mental telepathy".

Some few, while on Earth, experienced such moments of clarity, but on the whole it was referred to, but little understood.

To understand why, I would simply ask you to imagine the U. S. President Eisenhower sitting across the table from Soviet leader Krushchev at their famous meeting in Vienna, Austria and each instantly knowing what the other was thinking at that moment in the so-called "Cold War" which followed Earth's World War II.

Most arrivals here are not aware that at one time President Eisenhower had contemplated a "first strike" by the United States of America against the Soviet Union. Had he launched one, all talk about the Japanese attack against Pearl Harbor would have paled by comparison.

Suppose that at such a moment as that meeting in Vienna, Krushchev could have "known" Eisenhower had been considering such an attack. And suppose Eisenhower could have "known" that Krushchev was also considering a "first strike" against the U. S.

Earth's history would seem to have hinged on which man pushed the "Doomsday Button" first!

No, mental telepathy was reserved for use in Heaven, and even here it has had its problems and concerns.

For example: the Bible says that if a man lusts over a woman (or vise versa), it is the same as if that one of Heavenly Father's children had already committed adultery, or an only somewhat lesser sin.

Lying is also a sin, and in Heaven not the least amount of sin is tolerated here in the presence of God.

That is not to say that God did not know that His children were imperfect while they were on Earth. They were, and God grieved over how imperfect they were. But mortality was meant to allow mankind to grow up into righteous children, and to return to their Heavnly Father better for the tests and trials of life.

Here in Heaven we can forgive ourselves and others for any remaining imperfections, but in return we expect that charity and love are not to be abused, but rather to be a universal quality here.

All of God's children are capable of aspiring to and reaching toward perfection. Our mental telepathy which some call the original "Adamic Language" used in the Garden of Eden, is meant to avoid everyone having to learn everyone else's Earth language in order to communicate charity and love. At last count there were some 238 languages still in use on Earth, so you see how cumbersome it would have been to continue such divisiveness here.

At the same time, our universal language here accelerates learning, and sharing the qualities and the grandeur of Heaven.

Newcomers quickly learn how to adapt so that they avoid being betrayed by their own thoughts, just as others have learned before them.

On occasion mental telepathy has led to some very humorous consequences.

Most notable of these are the cases in which someone or group, while on Earth, apologized for something they had done there, but arrived in Heaven with the earlier matter still not fully resolved.

When a pair of such individuals or groups encounter each other here, both immediately know the truth behind such an apology. Fortunately they have eternity to resolve it. but Invariably they do so almost instantaneously.

A situation much less humorous occurs when couples who married on Earth meet each other in Heaven with the understanding that "bound on Earth is bound in Heaven" and "loosed on Earth is loosed in Heaven".

The happily married couples are delighted to rejoin each other. The unhappily married couples, if both make it to Heaven, are usually so happy to have made it, that nothing else matters and they quickly make bygones be gone.

Then also, God's creation is so vast that, even with all eternity stretching out before them, if they mutually choose to do things separately, they really have no obligation to ever do things as a couple. Serial divorcers are "a different kettle of fish"....an earthly image I find fascinating. So few of them make it here that it becomes an isolated problem.

While quite often a mutual understanding is not needed because only the wife, or only the husband, deserves to be in Heaven, eternity gives enough time to know, understand, and heal everything that was endured in mortailty.

As you are still in mortality while reading this, pondering all the complexities of communicating by mental telepathy will put you to sleep by the end of your Earth day (though counting your blessings is a much better step to take when earnestly seeking a restful sleep).

And I mention this as an example: on Earth you have heard the admonition "don't all talk at once!" Imagine the problems that were resolved here in Heaven to cope with everyone thinking all at once!
