I Am The Image Of Woman
A Poem For My Sisters
I am the image of woman:
Strong
Free
Beautiful.
I am made of flesh and bone
Connected in a way
That is divine.
I am many to all
Daughter
Wife
Teacher
Counselor
Nurse
Preacher
Lover
Friend.
With grace I perform each role
Not as duty
But with honor.
I am the image of woman
Do not force on me
Judgments from the past.
I have come too far to bow
To the hands of ignorance.
I am proud of my past
I embrace my heritage.
With hands of love
I prepare nourishment for my family.
With the gift of wisdom
I turn students into future leaders.
With my voice
I proclaim love
peace
justice
mercy.
I am the image of woman
Look at me and see
past, present, future.
I will only grow stronger
I will age in grace.
I am the image of woman
Too beautiful to ignore.
