I AM AN OIL LAMP

Updated on January 7, 2011

I am an oil lamp~

I shine bright~

But to the corners of dark~

 I can not grab a hold~

Yet I carry on~

 Continuing to unfold.

I am an oil lamp~

I flicker in the wind~

While night tries to come~

I try to stay stable~

 To not let it in.

I am an oil lamp~

My wick grows short~

I risk myself in the shadows~

I fight to keep my burn~

 As if it matters.

I am an oil lamp~

My oil depletes~

I exhaust my resources~

As my fuel diminishes~

 I become weak.

I am an oil lamp~

I light the way~

Keep me fueled~

So I will stay.

A beautiful poem Lisa. You have a lot of talent. Who would have thought about and oil lamp.

That is a beautiful poem, simple and heart warming. The gentle encouragement at the end is a beautiful wake- up call for us to keep hope alive in one another.
