Luna

He was right there. All of the running, all of the hiding, had done no good. She could hear him breathing as she hid on the other side of the crumbling brick wall. He'd stopped to rest. She knew he was just as exhausted as she was, but he wouldn't give up until he'd caught her.

There was a flash of memory. She saw in her mind what it had been like the last time he had found her.

Not again. She couldn't let it happen again.

"Luna," he whispered. The voice was the same, as soft and seductive as before. She hated him for how much she loved that voice.

"I told you...stay away from me!"

"You know I can't do that."

Her panicked breathing was slowing. Her head drooped. Her shoulders fell in despair.

"You know what happened before," she pleaded with him through trembling lips.

"Yes," he whispered, unwavering in his determination.

"Then why did you come back?" Her hands were cold and clammy, but desire sent sparks of heat through the rest of her body.

He listened to her ragged breathing and heavy sighs, hoping for a hint of surrender.

"Please," was all he could manage to say. The words he wanted, wouldn't come out. They stayed locked tightly in his throat. He loved her so much that it hurt, even to speak of it.

"You know you could die if we did it again." Her angry whisper reverberated like a scream inside his brain.

"I might die if we don't!" The urgency in his voice broke Luna's heart.

"I want to. You know that, but..." She was softening. It was torture to fight him.

"I've missed you so much. I tried to stay away. Luna. What can I do?"

Her pale fingers slowly reached past the thick edge of the wall. She shivered as his hand touched hers. It was a warm night in a cold and lonely town. She was finding it hard to imagine facing another morning alone...

My Inspiration for the "I'm Not Like Other Girls" Series

Michael Jackson's poem "Two Birds" from his beautiful book, "Dancing the Dream" has long fascinated me.

My wonderful daughter, Jasmine, (aka MJ tribute artist, "Michael Jasmine") without having yet read Michael's poem, brought a beautiful concept to me more than a year ago. She told me of an animated short she was contemplating with this same idea. We'd never discussed it before. It is Jasmine's genius that I drew on for the personification of a muse that shared inspiration with musicians of the world down through the ages. This muse was especially moved by her collaboration with Michael. I imagine Michael was singing of her in the song "Music and Me," though he may not have met her till years later. ;)

I do hope that Jasmine makes the movie someday too! Thank you Jasmine, with all my heart. Your story mirrors Michael's poem and takes it to another magical level of possibility. Perhaps it is a Moonwalking spirit that sprinkled his magical idea dust over you. ;)
