Lessons from the Storm
Let it go
Let it grow
Let it be free
Learn to believe
In the chaos of the moment
when fear turns into vice
live the coalescing shadows
that turn warm blood into ice
In screaming desperation
we grab and grasp and clutch
turning wild hearts into objects
squeezing 'til they're crushed
And deep inside, the raging storm
is sweeping truth away
like dust and chaff and worthless things
until night becomes our day
What kind of eyes does it take
to see right through dark pain?
What kind of heart can stand firm
and in faithfulness stay awake?
To resist to the point of sweating blood
the urge to seize control
to open wide both hands and heart
and in weakness face the flood
Even the strongest swimmer
can sink beneath the waves
and the only hope when overcome
is to float into surrender
Surrender hearts, surrender loves
surrender all you hold dear
Surrender wants, surrender needs
Send them off on the wings of doves
And in the quiet of the eye of the storm
what is true sinks gently down
and comes to rest with simple trust
in a heart that's losing form
Losing walls
Losing chains
Losing the urge to atone
Losing in the chaos-a heart that's made of stone
