(Nē•ces•si•ties (nec ce sities) ) A Poem About The Heart of the Necessity of Life's Basic Necessities

Updated on September 20, 2012

Life Riddle

What I need is simple

Though it's not simple to find,

When you are living in a world

Where people are less than kind.

What I want is easy

Yet, it's not so easy to see,

When everyone around you

Lacks basic integrity.

What I need is not expensive

Yet, the cost may seem too high,

When you are living amongst people

Who don't know wrong from right.

What I wish for isn't difficult

Yet, it may appear to be,

When your life is lived in a climate

That discourages loyalty.

What I require isn't a mystery

Yet, I struggle for the proof,

Because so many people out there

Just cannot tell the truth.

What I desire isn't impossible

Yet, the possiblities seem to cease,

When there is no one out there

Who is contemplating peace.

What I need is really not out of reach

Yet, it may be placed too high above,

When every single heart it seems

Is hardened against love.

This is sad but often seems that way. Small groups of people seem to find these things but on a large scale it is so hard to achieve. Very good writing!

Poohgranma - Thank you for the compliment. It is sad...I am not by nature a pessimist, but somedays...UGGH! It just seems that people cannot do the right thing, even when it is the easier route!

Fiddleman- Thank-you for your kind words.

I like this one very much...filled with contrasts of life and truth of much we see today. I have a poem called "Simple Man" which this one reminds me of in many ways...the subject matter is somewhat similiar but from a different perspective. Thanks for sharing. I hope you enjoy your time here on the Hub...it's a great place to write and enjoy friendships...a great place to learn from each other. WB

I enjoyed your poem. It is real and sometimes the truth hurts. Our world is in need of Love and because it has been hurt so much, its turned to other temporal needs. Good words, now lets show them Hope is not lost.

...well this may just be one of the basic necessities of life - your writing - which combines deep philosophical thinking and soulful insight - and your very personalized writing style says as much about you as an author of stirring words as it does about you as a proud and honorable person ......
