Limerick For The Days Ahead
For years and years....
For years and years it seems,
politicians buy us with dreams.
Their style is quite emphatic,
their actions just erratic.
Consistent only in schemes.
I for one would like
a man tested like Ike.
He came back from war,
to this country we adore.
And he threw a fine third strike.
In his parting shot he added,
about accounts so padded.
He reduced our nation's debt,
something not done, not yet.
His words some thought just chatted.
Now it comes around again,
our chance to decide just when,
we'll see his likes again:
a chief to lead all men.
If not now, then just when?
Some spout the implied promises,
"Need help with doing dishes?"
But when push comes to shove,
they are empty words of love.
A no hitter, a love of empty kisses.
I want those fireside chats,
not Congress' hollow spats.
I want to finally know
where we all can strive to go.
Public housing filled with rats?
Together we all can win,
above political spin.
If only we will choose,
the one who cannot lose,
a Chief above the din.
Can it really be too late,
When we need a head of state?
Or are we now so lost,
In benefits "No cost!"
that now it's just our sad fate?
