My Son/ A Senior Airman
Dedicated to my Son in the Air Force...!
.
.
Life is hard at times
But here we are
Met your mom when you were six
First grader, strong boy, so to speak
Was hard to be accepted into your life
Mom was the best thing from the sky
From those 25 gifts on Christmas
down to three, since we were always in need
Almost poisoned by your own mind... and hands
Trying to mix oil with my soda can
mom caught up with you
and smacked the heck out of the blues
apparently we never got along
looking for ways to break me from your mom
inciting arguments and those lies
making sure to make me angry at any time..!
Teen years came around, all seemed alright
but trouble was around by skipping school or starting a fight
mom thought you would end up in jail
but by miracles from the maker, you started to change
Senior year was witness to a big change
sharing calculus tricks. Getting to make it fun
Then headed of to serve Uncle Sam
and left for good this land of the free man
You might, you might think why?
why we didn't get along until way passed 9th grade
Mom gave up form that math from hell!
enough of equations and algebra that casted its spell
You left for the world in a good mood
And you know we think about you
Glad myself to have grown around you
Seeing you move and start anew
Pictures from that War; Iraq, Islamabad and Kabul
Scenes of death closing in and about to send you home
almost killed by snipers with a mission
Now you wish sometimes to come home in admonition
We know you are like our own blood
sharing thoughts and smiling as you go
Van Dam-me became a twin
wider shoulders and muscles from within
You have come as expected
Strong. stern and well respected
losing so many girls that hated a guy so much polite
What the heck! I said son of mine
Now a Senior Airman at 26
Full of life and ready for the quick fix
training camp teaching to face real action
No hesitation, no remorse, not even attached to any faction
You won't be home by Christmas indeed
but made it when little brother was sick
moved heaven and earth, even that Red Cross to make it back home
making sure little bro' was better and not alone
Have served your Country and became a real man
Not even ready to date and break another heart
Some ladies need to change their minds
Enough of rough caveman inside a ladies man
accept a a man and be really surprised
Saw that pic on You Tube, walking that desert of nowhere man
Noticed that blue sky, true and bright with that sunshine
holding that flag right against your heart
knowing that you were once the kid that was holding my hand..!
