ONE BY ONE THEY GATHER
There is an agreeable place~
Where old long time cronies meet~
At similar times the drinks are ordered~
While conversations flow amongst each other.
In the old towns here and there~
Are places where convenience allows~
For buddies to gather aware~
As they conversate with all subjects that they care.
Sometimes it is a local coffee shop~
A Post office~
Or a general store~
In any case the group collects there everyday~
Through the inviting doors they make their way.
They talk of health~
Maybe a new truck~
They tell and spin old silly yarns~
For most it is the highlight of their day~
Before they go to work or just retired play.
For years this goes on and on~
The same faces and maybe some new added upon~
The bond that makes a knitted cluster~
Sets friendships of steel until life ends the deal or~
Energy is less mustered.
One day there are five~
The next eleven~
As the cluster fluctuates as the days do tolerate~
They grow older and older as time goes on~
Illness takes one ~
One at a time.
There are get well cards~
Which fly to convalescent homes~
A little cheer and caring~
For the ones whom are sick or~
Are now moving too slow.
The days pass and it becomes less the numbers~
Which meet at the time~
They all clustered under.
One by one~
They still trickle in~
The comrades of towns~
A chat and listening.
One by one~
Wakes are visited~
Noting their devotion to the fallen friends.
They go to a place~
Where no one on earth doth know~
Angels and memories are now remembered in tow.
The party of cronies~
That once shared the drinks~
Gathered as a group of conversating~
Less now while others are missed.
One by one new faces arrive~
One by one they replace~
The cherished souls that died.
For years this goes on and on~
The same faces and maybe some new added upon~
The bond that makes a knitted cluster~
Sets friendships of steel until life ends the deal or~
Energy is less mustered.
There is an agreeable place~
Where old long time cronies meet~
At similar times the drinks are ordered~
While conversations flow amongst each other.
