Eyes of Forgotten Innocence: Once, When I Was Innocent
Once, When I Was Innocent
Once, When I Was Innocent
I have forgotten what style of poem this is. I had studied quite a few when I was doing the book. I didn't want them to be all free form or AB rhyming. I even did one that I think was unique to myself--Every first word rhymed.
The picture is actually a free hand, pencil drawing I did just for the book. While based on a real person, it is my own work and I hold all copyrights to it, as I do all the text of the book (except the Bible verse I used near the end--but that's kind of obvious).
You can find the book, Eyes of Forgotten Innocence, at any on-line book store. You can also order it from any number of brick and mortar stores, but on-line is faster.
I'm still donating up to $2,000 of the royalties to places such as http://www.cyberangels.org/ and http://www.missingkids.com. I am not affiliated with these organizations, but I wouldn't mind being so. They do some commendable work protecting children.
On to the text of the poem:
Once, when I was innocent,
I ran in the rain as it fell.
Once, when I was innocent,
I held my family in my heart.
Once, when I was innocent,
I looked forward to companionship.
Once, when I was innocent,
I opened my eyes, eager, to the new day.
Once, when I was innocent,
I found fascination in every single grain of sand.
Once, when I was innocent,
I knew what it was to feel safe in the world surrounding me.
Once, when I was innocent,
I had only the scars on my knees and not those that go unseen on my soul.
Once, when I was innocent.
