Poet without an audience Poetry by Ashley Pentycofe
Poet without an audience
I am empty
My audience silenced
They are no longer going to applaud their arms have been glued to their sides
They are no longer going to critique for their mouths have been sewn shut
They will no longer read for their eyes have been removed from their sockets
They cannot listen for they have potatoes in their ears
I am consumed by anger
I rip open one’s lips shoving my work down his throat line by line
Hoping he can taste the poem
Taste the feelings worked into each line
He chokes and spits it back at me
Anger on his face he slowly fades away into this air
One by one the rest follow abandoning me
Now who will read my poetry?
