Rhododendron Bush
Rhododendron bush you stand outreached~
At the corner of the porch~
Rhododendron bush like as a rose you~
Blossom like a gaily lit torch.
My father has cut you back at times~
To find you grow back much more plush and grand~
You are a wonder for all the seasons~
You grace this humble land.
Hardy you locate to almost any place~
Lowest to higher peaks~
Your color is so vibrant~
No one seeing you could weep.
Birds hide in your bountiful leafy nest~
Your bark the cat’s scratching post~
As well the humming birds~
Use you as a dinning host.
There is nary a time you sleep~
For winter knows you too~
Still found worthy when snow tries to cover you.
Although noted for your beautiful blossoms they can also concede~
To the ornamental leaves of varying green~
Waxy and luscious they are held also in high esteem.
Rhododendron bush you are well established~
You stand your ground firm~
So nothing could ever take your place~
Roots dug down deep so no one will be allowed to take your turn.
Rhododendron bush you stand outreached~
At the corner of the porch~
Rhododendron bush like as a rose you~
Blossom like a gaily lit torch.
