Con artists should never be underestimated. They are experts at gaining the confidence of others...by Martie Coetser. - Sociopath - Disguised As An Angel
Quick facts about sociopaths: They are characterized by superficial charm, lying, manipulative, lack of remorse/guilt, being emotionally shallow, and lack of empathy, failure to accept responsibility for own actions.
Have you seen the movie Catfish? If not, I invite you to watch this very interesting film (trailer below) and see for yourself how social networking could be scary sometimes and pose a danger to anyone specially the most vulnerable ones.
This poem is inspired based on a true story that is similar to the movie itself where a mentally deranged (sociopath) woman filled her fantasies with lies and deceptions taking advantage of the lonely souls, if not the vulnerable ones. Why catfish? Accordingly, when live cod were shipped from North America to Asia, the fish's inactivity in their tanks resulted in mawkish flesh. However, fishermen found out that putting catfish in the tanks along with the cod kept them active.
Since sociopaths are capable of manipulating their victims using their wit and charm and have the ability to captivate other people to believe in them and make them active in life, it makes them parallel to a catfish. They can create various personae based on the life they fantasize and can very well use their charm to get their victims’ sympathy. They take advantage of the most vulnerable ones.
Sociopaths are sometimes called a bluff, charlatan, pretender, double-crosser, an impostor, a crook, deceiver, shark or barracuda. They have a parasitic lifestyle and are pathological liars. Although sociopaths are people with psychopathic personality, not all of them are criminals. However, they lack a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.
There's no known cure for sociopaths but they definitely need professional help. They can suck your blood out. So, beware! Dont be a victim!

Thoughts to ponder:"Too many people buy things they don't need with money they don't have, trying to impress people they don't even like" ~ This is an inspirational hub dedicated to you.

You put her under your spell
With your gentle words
And charming facade
But beneath those beautiful eyes
Is a devil in disguised.
The early signs raised alarm
Your story so wicked yet you sold it
To this foolish child who's blindly in love
And in love she left some broken souls
Leaving in-depth pain of frustrations.
Bereft of moral and values in life
You’re a parent of five pretended a teen
And snatched your prey
With your evil desire to run away
From the ghosts of your past.
Such a heartless creature
You stole her future
Now she’s kept in a cage
What a shame indeed such a disgrace
Living a life full of lies.
In your fantastical sense
You changed your appearance
The color of your hair, even your name
That beautiful name now dastardly owned
By a con artist with a mysterious past - YOU.
Once virtuous child now dimmed with sins
Superficial tears rich with insincerity
Is your weapon to gain some sympathy
And within the walls of dishonesty
Is a life destroyed by your vicious intent.
While the sense of betrayal continues
The tortured souls you have deeply hurt
Will patiently wait for the judgment day
With a hopeful heart, it will soon arrive
Singing praises of the truth to smile about.
The twist and turn of playing games
You’re a slimy, stinking catfish in a pond
Hard to figure like a tangled tussle
Divine intervention promise not to curse
So, here's a prayer instead that you breed nil.

Wow. I couldn't watch the video because it's not available in the U.S. But, yes this sounds like the poem i wrote about my mom in my hub, Steady. Love it! Very well down.
I've been told of a couple of hubbers that fit this description...no names! Let's just say, no matter how nice someone may sound; don't be naive.
"Beneath those beautiful eyes
Is a devil in disguise"
Great description of a catfisher. Enjoyed this and look forward to reading more of your works.
Awesome hub - lovely poem. And I have seen the movie, it was pretty cool - different, and sort of strange, but I liked it.
Hi Crissp what a wonderful poem. Very informative too! I want to see that movie. Thank you fro sharing. :)
Hey where is my love from the sky ?......He he .......heres your ..:-}
Hi Chris , I wonder all the time about how sincere people are . This is awesome , your writing ! And as you know the evil side of humanity lies within many many hearts . Being a fairly keen observer of people ,I see the games , the posing , the sharades people play . I don't think thats spelled right ! From a young age the deceptions of emotions , the tricks of the hearts made me turn within for my own protection . And yet , like the young people in the trailer , almost all hearts seem to step on themselves trying to grow !.......All of it made me pull in my needs for attachments to people ........ahh anyway awesome write up , wicked poem !.......Ed
I love your writing. It is beautiful, lively and refreshing. Two thumbs way up!
Wow.. a powerful and thought provoking poem... makes me want to watch the film and the documentary! Voted up and all sorts... all the best, Jen
That movie trailer is sure intriguing, but I listen to your warning. You know, I will HAVE to see it. Your poem is right on target for a sociopath, though. You did a great job on it.
i love psychology and am watching every moment of the jodi arias (hairy-ass) trial at the moment..
if you'd like to see the textbook definition of narcissist, sociopath AND psychopath - i highly recommend you tune in for a moment or 2..OMG..
this...creature - would give charles manson and hitler a run for their money - and maybe even win..
great poem - still think the poor catfish's getting a bad rap..lol
it's like calling a murderer an 'animal' - now - that's not very complimentary to animals, now is it..(lol)..
voting and sharing on..
Wow, i Haven't seen anything from you recently. but, you came back with flying colors, you made an incredible poem. Its good to see you again, cant wait to read more.

Hi CrisSp my friend... I do hope this was not your story. Such a shame the deception of others can lead us to so much pain and suffering. When they are done they simply move onto another.
They will some day pay the price....
Hugs and Blessings from Alberta
What a great poem about a very scary and real problem. Jamie
I'm not sure how to take this. I've not seen the movie you reference. I do know I love catfish, I have colored my hair in the past and have attempted to change my appearance to match my age. I am far from deceitful and have a good heart. I don't mesh with society and I prefer to be alone. So, what say you about that, CrisSp?
CrisSp...Wow..very impressive poem..but I was unaware you knew my last boy-friend..
he was "pond scum" also...seriously though I look forward to viewing this documentary...enjoyed the hub...loved the pictures
Awesome, true words of reality. I can relate this to myself and so many whom I have come across. Thank you for this beautiful poem. Voted up, awesome and sharing!
I haven't seen this documentary--but this is such a sad sad place to be for anyone--you really nailed their plight
interesting poem, crissp.
did not realize how potent these cat fishes would be until now...lol
gotta watch the movie, now :)
Great Poem! I heard about this documentary. It's important to be discerning; a person isn't always what they appear to be. It is also important not to allow others to play judge with you. Some people who've been conned become so suspicious that they put others on the witness stand. They are cynical, "Sure you are, yeah, like I believe you". They want you to keep trying to prove to them that you are trustworthy while they stand their playing judge, "Hmmm, well maybe" and in these situations, the suspicious person can play judge and executioner with someone else.
Absolutely brilliant and I vote up and share. Thank you for sharing this gem;you are so very talented.
Eddy.
Wow! An extremely engaging hub with a wonderful poem! These people are totally unwanted. The movie trailer is very interesting and made me want to watch it. Will visit your hub titled 'Sociopath Disguised As An Angel' soon. Way to go!
Thanks for SHARING. Awesome & Interesting. Voted up & shared
Excellent poem and hub, well done. I saw the documentary and it is so sad as to what evil manipulating can to to a person. Voted up and awesome.
Bravo. Thank you for this. truly hair-raising poem.
Absolutely first class. So well thought through and presented.
Voted up and all.

Best line: "To this foolish child who's blindly in love":-(
I thought it was called 'catfish' because of the parallel to 'fishing' or 'phishing.' Interesting.
This is very a very interesting piece , and I agree with the fact that this was a very sad individual who was so lonely; because sometimes you can be surrounded by people and still feel that way... I saw this movie and have caught the show a few times; but the woman in the movie
I pity more than anything
You put a very nice spin on this serious new times issue...Wow!!!
Intersting preface and a frightening poem!
You have certainly captured the Cat fish intent. This is scary and your words make me realise how easy it is for the vulnerable to be taken over by falseness presented as fascination, love, or much more that a sociopath can present. And the hopelessness to see it happening. Well written - makes me sad. Voting up
I have not seen the movie and in truth I have never seen a catfish live....but I do love your poetry so this is much better any way you look at it. Always a pleasure reading your work, Cris. Well done!
Wow! I saw the documentary on this! It was so frightening. Now I want to watch it again. Thank you for this wonderful hub! Up+++, my friend!
Wow, CrisSp,
What a profound and scary poem here. When that photo popped up , it made me jump! This is written as though you have come across of one such sociopath . . . Yikes!!! Your descriptive words tell the tale of the sociopath's intentions, which are clear.
I am have come across a couple of them in my lifetime, and believe me it was no picnic to say the least. Yes, that is a good thing to pray indeed!
Voted up ++++ and sharing (my share buttons are not showing up at the time, will return!)
God bless you for this eye-opener here. In His Love, Faith Reaper
