The Cats Will Play - a poem

Updated on January 18, 2013
Source

One big and strong
One small and brave

This is how
The felines play

Stalk and pounce
Squirm and scratch

Chewing on ears
Batting away

Give and take
Strength and spunk

Friendly foes
Enjoying war games

Lick and soothe
Superficial wounds

Energy spent
Wounds dressed

Temporary ceasefire
Resting together

Eyes closed
Purring

fpherj48 - to be a kittien or a cat, what a life... no reason we can't act like one now and then ;)

Dana....What a perfect image of kittens playing.....just as I've seen a hundred times. They have a wonderful way of making us wish we could be kittens....at least for a day!...UP+++

ImKarn23 - Thank you Leslie... I think this kind of poetry is called: Dana doesn't like to follow rules or look up things so she just writes stuff and hopes people like it....

fyi - cats are way cooler than dogs... Still luv u though, how could I not?!... thanks for sharing :)

      I'm a dog person myself..lol..

      i'll share anyway..

Laurinzo, I could see you with a cat... I am definitely a cat person. At times I think I am part cat. :)

      Thanks for the vote up!

Nothing more fun that watching cats play-fight all day. You have captured this well in your poem.

I developed an allergy to cats somewhere along the way, dogs, too. That's why I have a Schnauzer cause I'm not allergic to that breed. I do miss watching cats play...they are SO cute.

Nell - Yes. it does seem that cats do things just to express their "catness" to us people. My mother had a cat that would nap in the kitchen sink!

This is definitely the "cat's meow." (Boy, does that comment date me)

I love it completely. Tis true in all aspects!

      Tremendous Job!

      Dana,

I like Mohan's (Docmo Kumar's) interpretation of this *suggestive* poem.

      Animals? Yes. ... Felines? No.

Your poem is very descriptive of *other activities*. Well done!

Docmo - You found me out! I admit that I was not thinking entirely of cats when I wrote this. I absolutely adore metaphor. Especially when the surface meaning stands on it's own and the metaphor is almost like a secret between author and reader.... your rearrangement of my words is masterful. nicely played. :)

mwilliams66 - Yes. If only I could have the life of a cat. Hmm. I feel another hub about cats coming on.

teaches12345 - Thanks for the compliment on the photo. That is my sweet simple mined Cow Cat. He is an "only child" at the moment. I am goign tohave to remedy that. I do love the way cats play, sometimes gentle and sometimes it looks as if they will rip each other to shreds!

Such an adorable cat photo on the hub. I could see the cats at play as I read. I love to watch kitties when they play and bat at each other. Sweet poem.

Lovely word play Dana. If you take away the feline affiliations this poem could well be an allegory for other antics.

      Stalk and pounce

      Squirm and scratch

      Chewing on ears

      Batting away

      Give and take

      Strength and spunk

      Friendly foes

      Enjoying war games

      Indeed. Indeed. ;-)
