A Poem -The Child Inside

Updated on December 12, 2011

The Child Inside

Things just seem so different in the eyes of a child. And as we grow they change,or is it the child who changes? We come into this world so innocent,so much time and freedom.Nothing seems out of place to a child-everything just seems to fit right in. Each year we grow, learning, creating, experiencing so many different things. The brain begins to overflow with information.Things to remember, things to do, plain and simple knowledge-we add in everyday life. Can we delete information, like on a disk,to make room for new? It seems there is so much to know and understand, sometimes we forget. When we are old enough to raise our own children,we realize that we are just a big child ourselves. The once organized floppy disk so crammed with information becomes a sloppy disk. No room to move past information to the front. The memory file flashes enough times,so you know- it's in there somewhere. But,why does it seem so hard to relate to your child's feelings and experiences? Were they ever really experienced in your childhood? How were they dealt with or were they dealt with at all? So many things change in life. But do they really change? Or does the child inside of us just change?

I the father of a four year old little girl am surprised and amused at the things she says and does. This little angel is truly the height of my life. I laugh with her all the time. The other day I told her something and she said "Daddy" that's just weird. I have truly been blessed to love her.

Hi ZulmaDear- Enjoy your little sister-She will always look up to you-and someday she too will look back and see you in her reflections of life. Yes-kids can help open up your creativity-That's a good thing. Have a wonderful day.

I have a little sister.. and sometimes i just watch her be. She's so content with everything that surrounds her.. nothing could bring her down.

As i sometimes watch her.. i begin to remember my childhood.. not much of a childhood.. but it's then i remember that i'm glad she's living out her childhood.

She helps me embrace my inner child.. helps me explore my creativity as well as my imagination. :)

    Thanks for this great read.

    ZulmaDear :)

Yes we do go through the same thoughts and feelings. We just forget. I was fanning through my journal when I was 21 and came across many pieces of writing with similar thoughts my son has gone through at this time of his life, he is 21 now. Needless to say I was amazed and love struck for him as my eyes opened wide with more understanding and I let him know by reading a few pages here and there. What a wonderful thing journals can be. Your poem is thought provoking.

I think we all need to keep the child inside alive no matter how old we are.
