The Outside Looking In
She walks home from school by herself and to all around her she has everything.
She is the adorable little girl next door.
She is the adorable little girl who sits in between her mother and father at church.
The only child of her mother and father who must be so doted upon.
To those around her, she has everything her heart desires….everything she asks for.
To those around her, she wants for nothing, does not have a care in the world.
Nothing to make her unhappy.
To those around her, there is nothing for which to be unhappy.
Why should there be?
Those around don’t see her stomach tighten as she approaches her home.
Every step closer to home...
Those around her don’t see the welts hiding under her little slacks.
Those around her don’t know what awaits her as she walks through the door to what should be shelter from the storm.
Those around her don’t know because she must keep smiling, must stay happy, she has many people to impress, must not let anyone down….
Only herself.
