The Vanishing Family On Thanksgiving Night
Bright Light in the Dark
The Vanishing
"Analisa sat alone on the park bench, the scowl on her face as dark as the gathering thunderclouds."
"How did I get here? This is weird and scary. It's dark and cold out here. I don't even have a coat or shoes. Where am I? Where is everybody? Hello!! hello! is anybody out here, hello! She waited, but after a minute or two no answer came, just an eerie dark silence.
What the heck! The last thing she remembered was standing at the kitchen sink surrounded by mounds of pots, pans, plates and countless cups. Thanksgiving dinner was over. The nieces, nephews, daughters and their husbands, the grand kids had all gone home-vanished. Now she stood there tired, and frustrated. Why didn't any of them offer to help clean-up!?
"Should I just leave it for tomorrow? It's not like he's going to help me tonight," she thought, as she looked at her husband passed out on the couch. He was drooling on the couch even with the TV blaring loudly. These are the days when I just want to run away, have some me time. Maybe I'll just go to bed, but suddenly her body felt hot, there was a bright flash and a loud thundering in her ears. She closed her eyes, put her hands on her ears and now here she was alone in a strange park. What the heck? What happened?
Beep beep beep, she was startled by a car horn, a flashing bright light coming through the kitchen window, as the last of her kids drove out of her driveway and vanished into the darkness of the night. She blinked, geez I must have zoned out!
"yup!, I will definitely leave this mess for tomorrow. I'm obviously way too tired to do this tonight, more tired than I thought. I can't even daydream right. This is not what I meant when I wished for a little alone time."
If I'm going to vanish I could at least go somewhere warm and beautiful, like a soft-sand-beach in Hawaii, not some dark desolate park..."
"I'm not even going to wake him up, he can just sleep on the couch. I can barely get myself up the stairs to my warm, cozy bed. Happy Thanksgiving!
