Can You Tell When Someone is Truly Happy?

Can you tell when someone is truly happy? Are you REALLY looking beyond the smile?

If you are happy and you know it, SMILE A LOT!
If you are happy and you know it, SMILE A LOT! | Source

I always thought that:

If I made friends, I would be happy

If I made “new “friends, I would be happy

If I grew up, I would be happy

If I graduated from high school, I would be happy

If I moved out of my parents’ house, I would be happy

If I graduated from college, I would be happy

If I found a career, I would be happy

If I moved away from all of the drama, I would be happy

If I found my soul mate, I would be happy

If I got married, I would be happy

If I bought a house, I would be happy

If I worked hard, I would be happy

If I had a child, I would be happy

If I made a lot of money, I would be happy

If I won the lottery, I would be happy

If I made everyone else happy, I too would be happy

If I had someone to talk to, I would be happy

If I had someone to share my pain with, I would be happy

If I surrounded myself with truly happy people, I too would be happy

If I lost weight, I would be happy

If I got rid of all of the wrinkles and cellulite, I would be happy

If I ran away from all of my problems, I would be happy

If I drank this drink, It would make me happy

If I took this doctor’s pill, It would make me happy

If I died, I would be happy

I spent my whole life saying, “If this happens, then I’ll be truly happy.”

I spent my whole life smiling and pretending to be happy while I was sad and crying inside.

Now, I’m at the end of this life and I realized I had the ability to be happy all along, but it was wasted on looking forward to the next biggest thing.

I kept waiting for the magic cure that would MAKE me happy.

I didn’t have to look for happiness to find it; Happiness was in my soul all along.

I wrote this as a reflection of where my life was headed. If I continued to wish my life was better, and tie my happiness to tangible things, then pretty soon, my life would be over and I would have wasted all of my precious time worrying about things instead of acting on them and making a positive difference in my life and the lives of others. We all have the ability to turn around our lives (and it’s a lot easier with the help of God!)

Thank, billybuc! It was honestly the easiest piece I ever wrote because I've been thinking about it for so long! The words just started to flow as I typed; I love when that happens!

Cool ideas. You only have one shot and so there is no point in thinking "what could have been?" Think "What can be?!"

So many opportunities in life can make us happy. So many decisions in life can make us happy. Be settled on our own decisions can make us happy. I think happiness is a personal experience. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you again for your positive affirmations; I have seen and heard many people of all ages, sizes, and socio-economic backgrounds wish they were happy for days, weeks, and years. Happiness starts within you and will last as long as you want it to. We've all been through negative milestones, but the ones who turn the negative into a positive are the ones who are truly happy. I'm done faking it; I want to be happy now forever!

Happiness is something we all strive for, but we need to go no further than ourselves. We all have the ability to be happy, but trying to find it through something or someone else is misleading.

      Thanks!

Happiness should be something in all of our lives but we all lose our way sometimes and believe that getting rich can make us happy or whatever but happiness is created from what you make of life and what brings you joy - picking a flower, smelling the fresh air, seeing a baby smile are all free ways to get happy. You could be rich and happy but not necessarily!

It is so true most of us run after an oasis. It is just not out there, happiness is inside and being content is being happy. Great poem. Voted up.

Beautiful hub and so true. We all seem to wish our lives away when happiness is making the most of what we have and the moment that we are at.

Excellent thoughts and you are right, happiness is in our soul. Sometime back, I've written a hub on happiness as well. No plugging intended but you may be interested to visit it as well because after reading this hub, I feel you can relate to it (Happiness from Masterpiece to Masterpeace).

      Happiness always!
