Can You Tell When Someone is Truly Happy?

Can you tell when someone is truly happy? Are you REALLY looking beyond the smile?

If you are happy and you know it, SMILE A LOT!

I always thought that:

If I made friends, I would be happy

If I made “new “friends, I would be happy

If I grew up, I would be happy

If I graduated from high school, I would be happy

If I moved out of my parents’ house, I would be happy

If I graduated from college, I would be happy

If I found a career, I would be happy

If I moved away from all of the drama, I would be happy

If I found my soul mate, I would be happy

If I got married, I would be happy

If I bought a house, I would be happy

If I worked hard, I would be happy

If I had a child, I would be happy

If I made a lot of money, I would be happy

If I won the lottery, I would be happy

If I made everyone else happy, I too would be happy

If I had someone to talk to, I would be happy

If I had someone to share my pain with, I would be happy

If I surrounded myself with truly happy people, I too would be happy

If I lost weight, I would be happy

If I got rid of all of the wrinkles and cellulite, I would be happy

If I ran away from all of my problems, I would be happy

If I drank this drink, It would make me happy

If I took this doctor’s pill, It would make me happy

If I died, I would be happy

I spent my whole life saying, “If this happens, then I’ll be truly happy.”

I spent my whole life smiling and pretending to be happy while I was sad and crying inside.

Now, I’m at the end of this life and I realized I had the ability to be happy all along, but it was wasted on looking forward to the next biggest thing.

I kept waiting for the magic cure that would MAKE me happy.

I didn’t have to look for happiness to find it; Happiness was in my soul all along.

I wrote this as a reflection of where my life was headed. If I continued to wish my life was better, and tie my happiness to tangible things, then pretty soon, my life would be over and I would have wasted all of my precious time worrying about things instead of acting on them and making a positive difference in my life and the lives of others. We all have the ability to turn around our lives (and it’s a lot easier with the help of God!)
