Coming to in the hospital had not been something Ruben expected to do. He couldn’t help but wonder where Lisa was and whether Bob was really dead. Breaking his train of thought Ruben looks up to see a Detective walk into his room.
“Ruben Gonzalez?” questions the Detective as he comes up to the bedside.
Looking up Ruben responds cautiously, “Yes, sir, that is me. How can I help you?”
“Ruben Gonzalez, you are under arrest for murder and depending on what is found in that apartment more charges may be forthcoming.” Intones the detective as he glares at Ruben and then continues, “When you are released from here you will go straight to jail.”
Angered Ruben glares at the detective and snaps, “You can’t arrest me without reading me my rights.”
“Mr. Gonzalez!” states the detective as he takes out his handcuffs and moves to the Ruben’s side, “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand these rights as they have been recited to you?”
“Yes!” mutters Ruben as the doctor walks into the room.
“Mr. Gonzalez, you are able to leave. The gunshot wound is minor and there all be no significant damage left behind once it heals.” States the doctor looking back and forth between Ruben and the detective.
“Thank you, doctor.” Responds the detective as he turns to Ruben and says, “Put your hands behind your back slowly.”
“Ahem…” says the doctor clearing his throat.
“Yes?” questions the detective turning to look at him.
“He will have to be cuffed in front officer if you must. He cannot put his hand behind him, because of the obvious bandages on his shoulder.” Answers the doctor looking at the detective sternly.
“Okay fine!” states the detective gruffly as he cuffs Rubens hands in front of him and sits him on the edge of the bed.
