Life Lesson's Poetry: The Toss of the Dice
A single tear,
Rolls off my cheek,
Into the pool
We use to spend,
Our summers in.
The refreshing water,
Cool to the touch,
Could not
Put out the fire,
Burning inside of me.
I was raging,
The world was
Against me
And somewhere
Along the way
I forgot about you.
I forgot about them,
Their youthful laughter,
That used to fill
My heart with joy.
Our kids.
My family
Was complete,
But still
It was not enough.
I needed more
So I tossed
It all away
With the roll
Of the dice
Everything is gone
No more
The end
Welcome to
My new life.
Life Lesson
I wrote this poem as a reminder of what I lost, because of my selfish ways. I worked long hours at a thankless job just so I could make enough money to buy all the things I thought would make me happy. I ignored my kids, and missed those early years that I would give anything to have back. I gambled money away on get rich quick schemes that never paid off, and eventually my debts ate me alive.
If I had it to do over again, the only thing I would change would be to make a some more memories with the people I loved. Life has a way of revealing itself to you as you get older, and I realize that you have to appreciate the things you have and stop punishing yourself by chasing after the things you want.
I hope my lesson will go on to serve others who might have a chance to fix their mistakes before it's to late. Don't be a dummy. Appreciate the people in your life. Savor ever embrace, and make sure you make some good memories.
