What is Free Writing?

Updated on May 29, 2013

Have you ever experienced the nightmare of bloggers; the writer’s block. Writer’s block is when you are unable to come up with new topics to write about, coupled with the lack of motivation to write anything. Free writing is a great way to cope with writer’s block. Free writing is when you force yourself to write. The idea behind free writing is that you just write down anything that comes to your mind, even if it is just random words, or phrases. See, the way your brain is wired is that when you write (or draw) something, your subconscious part of your brain starts working automatically and starts to link random snippets of thoughts, words, phrases, etc. all together. Free writing plays on this characteristic of your brain. So next time you do not know what to write about and you don’t even want to, just sit down in front of your computer, or laptop, open a blank, white, and empty word document and just start writing down random words, don’t think about them just write them down. After a short while you are likely to catch yourself adding phrases and then sentences around words. This process will gradually develop into full articles, and more then likely have a number of article stubs that you can later expand, add more content to, and improve it.

So are you still not able to write? Just start writing those words down!
