Whispers of Goodbye... final chapter

Updated on November 15, 2011

The storm had worsened since they had gone beneath the waves. Samuel needed to get the children under cover before the lightening began to strike the children. Though he thought about the story of the little girl and the lightening, he doubted that being struck directly was going to be good for any of them. Lauren stilled stared at him, waiting for an answer.

"Your father will be fine, Lauren but he needs you to be safe when he gets free. Please catch up to Eve and the others and I will go get your father." Samuel had no idea how he was going to get Morg top-side but he knew he weasn't going to leave him where he was. Motioning for Eve to continue to the dock, he knew help was only a few minutes away. he stuck his head into the cavern and called out.

"Morg, I am coming for you. Do not give up! I am coming now!"

Dropping down inside the cavern, Samuel was greeted by the men that had held them hostage. He could see blood on the wall where Morgan had been but no sign of Morgan.

"What did you do to him, you bastards?!?!?" He swung out, connecting his fist with the first man. In an instant he was taken down to the floor by several of the others. "I won't stop until Morgan is here or I am dead!"

"Extremely heroic for a man that has just opened a can of worms that will be hard to close. You, Mr., have caused the shut down of something the government has been working on for a very long time."

"What are you going to do? You can't kill twenty some kids and three adults!"

"Never our intention to hurt anyone. We will simply seal this all off and blame some poor Wino for stealing the children. We can't change what has happened here and frankly, I am tired of being here too. I don't think parents of the children are going to care how they got home, as long as they are safe."

"How do you undo the implants? Those kids are going to die if they don't get help, fast."

"The storm should short out most of them. Those that it doesn't, tell the doctors to go in through their left shoulder. Follow the wiring to the lung, only the left lung has the breathing apparatus, and have them clip the wire. They do not need to remove the nodules inside the lung. Once shut down, the children's breathing will be normal again. Give the doctor the number on this card. All expenses will be taken care of in full, no questions asked. If the doctor or anyone tries to pursue the numbers origin... well best they do not. Go back up and save the kids. Their personal information is in charts that are on your boat. Get the kids home for me. At least then, I might have a chance at forgiveness one day."

"I still need Morg! I am not leaving with..." Samuel felt the strength of four men on him now. Shoving him back up through the hole, he fell to the sand as the hatch was being sealed. He pounded on it but knew it was never going to be opened again. "I am so sorry, my friend. I will get Lauren back to Linda for you. I promise you that."

As Samuel began to run towards the children, he felt a rumble under his feet. The ground shook for only a moment before the ground erupted all around him. Fire belched from the sand and rocks, sand and ocean water were tossed one hundred feet in the air. He ran as fast as he could, barely escaping the fall out of the explosions. He knew that anything under them would be washed out by the in coming tide. "Goodbye Morg," Samuel whispered.

The rescue squads had already arrived when Samuel reached the children and Eve. He took them aside and told them what needed to be done. FBI agents stood all around the beach, watching Samuel as he spoke to paramedics. One of the men approached Samuel.

"Your friend is being treated for a gunshot wound. His wife is with him and has been de-briefed. I trust there will be no more issues from you or them. You families will be compensated and this will be the end of the story for you."

"How do I know the children will be returned to their families?"

"Watch your News and you will see children re-united with their families. The government wants this silenced too. It is done and needs to be left alone."

At the hospital, Morgan seemed to be recovering fine. The wound wasn't deep and he would be home soon. He nodded as Eve and Linda hugged one another. Mikey and Lauren clung to their mothers. Samuel walked over to Morgan.

"Sammy, I heard you come back for me. You risked the lives of the children and yourself doing that. I should be angry but I am instead saying Thank you. The News is already plastering some poor saps face all over the screen, claiming he and a woman were holding the children in some sort of "hire for slave" ring. No mention of anything out of the ordinary about the kids. I suppose that is where it all should stay."

"It is where it will stay, Morg. What about you? Do I still need to look for a new partner?"

Morgan held his arms out and Lauren and Linda came to him. "I think I am going to stay with you a while longer. I have my two ladies back and I think we are going to do just great." He pulled Linda down and kissed her tenderly. She smiled up at Samuel.

"Yea, we are going to be fine, Sammy. Life is good and we are where we should be."

They all smiled at Linda and nodded.

The ocean was calm tonight. A lone figure wandered along the beach. He had hidden in the coral for almost a year. The time had come now to visit his family. He had not yet decided how he would remind them yet. He only knew that "Bobby's" family was going to remember the son they left behind. He would introduce them to himself, the one left alone. He was going to make certain they knew he was Alive. Down into the ocean water he dove. He didn't want to be out of the water too long...............................................................
