The demons have come

Casting invisible war

They are cunning and fraud

Causing great harm

Robbing peace of mind

Drawing furrow on brow

Creating some situations

Toiled and tensed

They target the feeble minds

Who are at lost

And couldn’t measure the cost

Out of life’s turbulent roll

In the island of grief

Dark clouds hung overhead

Moving slowly billowing fold

And ominous kind swathed in shrouds

While the spirit is deeply wounded

From a battle of this invisible war

The Demons reign

Filling the future with dismay

Trying to accomplish their aims

No offer of a square deal to humbly retreat

But to continue to fight vigorously

And when the heart gets tired

Hollow and so damn weak

In its’ longing to end the battle

To depart this earthly scene

Suddenly becomes a winning streak.

From The Bell Jar

“I took a deep breath and listened to the old brag of my heart; I am, I am, I am.”

—Sylvia Plath

Such a powerful write--we all have our battles that we must wage, and some are so difficult. You capture the poignancy of the journey

aviannovice: To divide and conquer is perhaps the best strategy but one must have a very strong will and power to implement it and succeed. And, to succeed we also need the great understanding of the people around us.

Nice to see you here Deb. I know you've been very busy writing about our friends in the sky and educating people. So, I appreciate your time.

      Love from the sky. ~

Cris......You're an inspiring poet. I felt the depth of your emotions. i find I always read Poetry so much slower than prose.....I want to take in every intention. You expose your heart.

      Because I feel the demons as I write , as before and after . Actually they never leave us but once in a while they tell us something that we can put down in words . Just as you have ..........;-}

Wow, Cris, there certainly is that unseen realm of a war going on in the heavenlies and it is not against flesh and blood but powers and principalities of this unseen world for sure. You nailed it here in your powerful poem.

Those of us who understand all of this, are sure to be mindful to put on the Full Armor of God each and every morning.

      Sharing

      Peace and blessings always

Eric: Thank you. I think most people had passed by the invisible war zone. Unfortunately, there are some who did not win the battle or simply felt defeated and gave up. *sad*

But you and me, my friend...WE are the champions and we'll keep on fighting 'til the end.

This is a beautiful piece. Somebody once told me I had to deal with my demons, because they got the better of me from time to time. They were right. I reckon my war is not so invisible. Loved the song and your artistry with words.

saddlerider1: Hello! I haven't seen you for a while here and so, thank you for gracing this page. I love Ms. Plath too and although many can relate to her writings, she was more often misunderstood indeed. I must admit, she was my muse in this piece.

      We'll hang in there!

Interesting work indeed, Demons are prevalent in many writers lives, they insist on multiple attempts to cast our pen to Hell. I choose to hang on tightly to mine. Sylvia Plath was a very misunderstood poet, depression kills many, sad but so true. She was a magnificent poet. Keep writing, never fear the Demons are they will absorb your gifts.

Push back the demons. I love Sylvia Plath, by the way. She is a dangerous obsession as a writer. Powerful but God, she can suck you down deeper.

I especially loved your last verse. It perfectly describes my mother's battle with cancer, but it can describe any type of war one must wage while occupying the earthly body. Very apt and descriptive of the two types of people who look forward to the other side, the very religious and the truly spiritual.

      Fantastic song, too.

Good poem! The demons certainly have bothered me at times in a war that can't be seen. You're ultimately winning though.

An amazing poem Cris. There certainly is an invisible war raging and we need to be forever vigilent and willing to fight. Great song "Demons" by Imagine Dragons" one of my favourites. Well done. Hugs.
