For National Poetry Month #25

I wanted to write from some spot

in my brain,

my heart,

where real poetry resides

waiting to be plucked

out of the air,

and fall out onto a page.

But that spot had a sign up,

“closed for inventory.”

Although I tried the window and the back door too,

all was locked and shuttered for the night.

Somewhere along the line, I began to identify such times, not just related to writing, but to all the many things which seem to skid to a standstill - no, worse than standing still - being suspended, unattached; they became what I recognized as my "Fertile Flux". It was enormously freeing. Once I'd named that 'thing', whenever one of them arose, I could just sort of shrug and say to me, "Oh, it's just one of THOSE." The name really describes it for me, too - it's a hazy 'almost pregnant' uncomfortable sphere of stirring and sorting from which always emerges an idea, a solution, a new outlook - whatever fits the 'vacancy' I'd been feeling. (I also identified "free fall" - not nearly as comforting, but sometimes that occurs, along with 'sudden impact'. :-)

I feel much kinship with you. I found you by noticing my friend, Arb, had followed you. I'm truly glad I did.
