Alchemy

Alchemy

by Laura Summerville Reed

I never showed up for chemistry class

but passed the litmus test just the same

I climbed out the window

to chase the Philosopher’s Stone

Changing lead balloons into white hot Devil Orbs

has always been the more interesting homework

I sought the Universal Solvent

I discovered the Elixir of Life

The gold and silver Panacea

sparkles and shines

and tears at the day and the night

and my wrists and my throat

I stir this cup

bitter as quinine

sweet as summer honey

gathered in the sunlight

savored in the moonlight

I’ll drink it up

and toast to its glorious failure

and all that’s won between the lines

The alchemist that can excite the chemicals between us. Awesome!

That sounds like my morning cup of coffee! :-)

Oh the potions we stir in our cauldrons of life gurgling, bubbling, boiling with an array of color and smell. The aromas arouse longing, sadness, and fear; the shades add mood to sober the moment. We sprinkle in an eye of newt, some bayberry leaf, and a touch of magic dust to attain that special chemistry of our own personal concoction which we then drink of thirstily to gain our fill of what the future might offer. Enough of that! How ya been? Actually, I just wanted to say that I think I might have understood this one! It was good too! WB

Augustine, that sounds like the lead into a some great 80s ballad, haha! Thank you so much for saying it's awesome :D

JB, it's really amazing the magic that occurs when caffeine is transmuted into morning bliss. I wonder what the chemical formula looks like... maybe, C8H10N4O2 --> :)

Wayne Brown, how did you get my punch recipe? and do you mean that none of the rest of my writing has made any sense? LMAO!!...I am doing fine, my dear friend, thank you so much for checking on me and for your wonderful comments.

I'm no chemist but I can google and you got the formula right unless you are one of those people who add C12H22O11 to it - but I just like mine black and without any sweetener!

JB, make mine with extra C12H22O11 and heavy on the emulsion of butter fat molecules suspended in a water based fluid, too, please - the Elixir of Life definitely has sugar and cream in it, haha!

This is a masterpiece, Laura. What a vivid representation of the passion and seduction of full-life living - and the drive to attain it (even if simply & subtly as a mere daily brew!) Clever! WOW.

Sir Wayne's reply is quite expressive too! I find it difficult to think this is the only of your writings he's liked or considered sensible!

Oh! Nellieanna, do you really like it so much? The very thought of living up to words like "masterpiece", "WOW" and "Clever" is so incredibly humbling, yet they release such a chemical, alchemical, magical chain reaction that one can't help but feel the euphoria of "full-life living" at the same time! Thank you, dear lady.

I am your all chemical alchemist and always at your ready to read and be your reader. La Le Su...Lalesu!

I love this one, and by the way when you read the comments in Wayne Brown's area concerning you and me tying you up for an afternoon. Don't kill Wayne, he had very little to do with anything that I said...

Love your work, and am a huge fan of all things alchemical. Keep on Hubbing. Blake4d

Blake, you sent me on a fun scavenger hunt this afternoon. Wayne has taken me on trips to the Butterfly Moon via Twinkie cobbled highways on more than one occasion...I had to climb through a few windows before I landed in the right spot this time...and I'm afraid I'm going to have to hurt you both now, lol.

I'm so glad you liked it, thank you, and thank you, again!

Hello Rafken, so nice to meet you. I recommend looking straight into the sun at regular intervals and sending back a blinding smile in return, and be sure to drink at least 8 full glasses of the Universal Solvent each day - that should about do it, haha! Thank you for stopping by..I'm off to follow your page now!
