Please Don't Feed the Chipmunks
In the year of many dandelions~
As the violets are in bloom~
On a non-sunny day~
While a chartreuse green canary~
Sipped water from the birdbath~
The baby chipmunk was curious~
Trying to look for buried nuts~
Under a small Iris stalk~
When I spoke to him~
He ran off.
A little later~
I saw baby chipmunk venture~
Near to the fir tree~
As he inadvertently climbed~
There was danger he could not see!
Next thing I saw~
Was baby chipmunk running for his life~
Straight along the white picket fence~
As Mama Robin and Papa Robin~
Dived bomb the poor little chipmunk~
To protect their nest from~
The wee little pest!
Mr. and Mrs. Robin~
Where relentless in their dagging~
They must of seemed so large~
To the little baby coming out of it~
Lucky without scathing!
Fortunately baby chipmunk~
Escaped to a near by hole~
With new found knowledge~
Not to dare climb up that fir tree ever~
Again so bold~
Look before he takes on endeavors~
So bad things do not unfold!
