Jeannie has been writing online for over 10 years. She covers a wide variety of topics—hobbies, opinions, dating advice, and more!

I started reading the Blue Bloods series by Melissa de la Cruz about 2 years ago. Honestly, my friend gave me the first book hoping it would be as good as Twilight. I have to say, the series certainly stands on its own. I don't think it should be compared to Twilight, but of course, since it has a vampire theme, that was bound to happen.

Blue Bloods is like Gossip Girl meets vampires. The vampires in the book are rich and spoiled, yet complex. It would be so easy to hate some of the characters, yet sometimes they do something so out-of-character and unexpected, you have to fall in love with them. Blue Bloods also has a different take on vampires. You can't become a vampire simply by being bit; you are born a vampire. It is an honor and a privilege to be a Blue Blood, and not just anyone can be one.

A List of Main Characters:

Schuyler Van Alen - She is the protagonist in the series. Of course, like every good protagonist, she is an outcast at school. Her family was once rich and powerful, but she lives quite modestly and dresses in clothes from second-hand stores. She has one friend named Oliver and seems content with that. Throughout the series, she does gain more confidence and eventually befriends more people. She has feelings for Jack Force, but like any good teen romance novel, he is popular and there are problems that plague their relationship.

Oliver Hazard-Perry - Oliver is Schuyler's best friend and faithful companion throughout the series. He is drawn to Schuyler, but she is interested in Jack. This causes a great deal of stress on this relationship.

Mimi Force - Mimi is the Paris Hilton of the vampire world. She is beautiful, blonde, and has everything handed to her on a silver platter. Mimi is the most popular girl at school and makes Schuyler's life a living hell in more ways than one. Over time, Mimi grows on you. Instead of being the spoiled brat, Mimi grows as a person.

Jack Force - Jack is Mimi's twin. There is so much more that could be said about the two, but I will hold off. No spoilers in this hub! Jack is Schuyler's love interest and there is always a great deal of tension regarding this subject.

Bliss Llewellyn - Bliss is another popular girl at the school the characters attend. She is a pretty redhead and is befriended by Mimi Force. Bliss and Schuyler find out they are Blue Bloods at the same time. The two eventually become friends. Bliss does have strange flashbacks and, when reading the books, it becomes obvious Bliss is not who she seems.
