Book Review of Chronospace 2: The Paradox of Buck Nowlan by Chris Johnson

Updated on October 9, 2025

The Book:

The Paradox of Buck Nowlan (Chronospace Book 2) by Chris Johnson is a time-travel, science-fiction 254-page novel that was published on August 1, 2023.

The Plot

Tony Buck Nowlan is the inventor of the Chronospace, a time-travel device that he invented in 2042. He invented it to travel back in time to visit his parents before he was born.

Tony uses it to go back to 1967 to meet Elvis Presley on his and Erin's honeymoon. The day after returning from their honeymoon, a man named Stan, claiming to be Tony's great-great-great-grandson, shows up with a baby. Stan claims that the child is him, Buck. Stan claims there is trouble in 2171 and that Buck and his family are in danger and on the run.

Buck doesn't trust Stan but is plagued with questions. Who is the baby? Is it really him? He desires to find the truth, but that would be breaking the promise he made to his pregnant wife, Erin, about not time-traveling and leaving her alone. He travels back in time months after his own birth, only to be driven further in time due to his Chronospace device malfunctioning.

As he travels through time, he encounters perilous periods and meets fellow time travelers. Some are allies and some are enemies. With his device malfunctioning, will he ever go home to see his wife and hold his child, or will he be stuck in time? You will have to read the book to find out.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed this story. It had a good mix of time travel, science fiction, and human emotions. I loved that it focused on choices, trust, loyalty, and sacrifice.

I love Buck with his flaws and struggles. One can relate to his character. It's great that it also touches on the idea of what could happen if you change the past.

The writing for me was easy to understand, even with time-travel talk. The story was so amazing that I finished reading the book without even realizing it.

Overall, The Paradox of Buck Nowlan is a thoughtful and emotional story about choices, struggles, and second chances. I can't wait to read the next one. If you love time-travel and science fiction, then this book is for. You should check out his first book in the series.
