Get the basics in first, "who what where when and why."
If you're writing a standard news story, focus on being succinct, and very clear on attributing all information to its original source. You'll probably want to use the AP stylebook to determine how a news agency will want the story formatted.
Use the five W's and inverted pyramid format. Starting from the most important facts going to the least important.
