What writer inspired your writing style the most and how?

Steven Brust, Piers Anthony, Orson Wells, Douglas Adams, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, are among many of my influences.

When I was in the 2nd grade I was inspired to write when I read this novel "Strawberry Girl" written by Lois Lensky.  Even though I was only 8 years old at the time, the novel inspired me so much that I started writing myself.  As I grew older, I started to read many other poems and stories written by a great number of authors.  But the most inspiring were Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes and Lois Lensky.

I think Winston Churchill influenced me the most.  He never wrote in fancy prose, his books are readable and understandable to seventh and eighth graders.
I admired the simplicity and tried to emulate it as much as possible.
Surprisingly, it catches the attention of the reader much more than complex language and phrases.
My tutor emphasized brevity, short sentences, and avoiding what she called "purple prose".  I tried to follow her instruction as much as possible.

J.R.R. Tolkien - Fantasy has always intrigued me and the first time I read "The Hobbit" I was hooked.  There is something about letting one's imagination run wild in a controlled fashion. My characters and storyline emerge as I write and it is fun to see where they take me.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was also a great influence with his Sherlock Holmes series as well as most all of his other works. His was a more analytical influence. Deciding how and when to have something happen in my stories takes some careful thought, sometimes.

    well, too many to mention,
i love love the way P. G Wodehouse writes about love, very whishy washy and full of interesting, thought rather stupid people ( in a charming sort of way ), being a romantic at heart, i find myself thinking in these terms sometimes.

Bill Bryson makes me laugh loud, often too loud, and i love someone who writes like that. and i hope to write in a way to make others laugh.

Terry Pratchett is another writer that i find AMAZING.the mind of that man must be as big as the disk world wink though i am not a fantasy fiction writer. if i was, well... i would be him , wouldn't i ? wink

Malcolm Gladwell's way of connecting the dots is most impressive. and he holds you in your seat. i love that. he got me interested in starting to write again. now only to find more interesting topics ( or even better, create them).
