Do you prefer hand written thank you's or an email?

I've received several thank you's via email and was wondering which do most people prefer?
Hand written thank you's or are you okay with email thank you's?

I think it depends on the person and the gift.
I would say, always opt for a hand written note because it's more personal--something the gift giver can know that is meant specifically for them. Because electronic communication is so prevalent, hand written notes really stand out.

I agree that is depends on the person. However, as thoughtful as I think hand writing a note is, it's a waste of paper. Save the tree. Take a digital photo and put it in the email, or take the time to find a good looking e-card. Just as thoughtful.
