    What makes a blog successful?

    How often should you publish, what should you publish about, where should you advertise? What makes some blogs take off where others tail off? Is it down to perseverance or is there more skill involved?

    As sad as it is, I've seen my best results when the picture that goes with the blog is a funny cat picture... Not necessarily ethical, but for that blog, there was good reason. I also didn't expect that result, but I attribute it to the cat picture nonetheless.

    Second, quality is key. You may get a few reads right off the bat for any blog, but you get downgraded quickly if it isn't well written, is poorly organized, or has less than reliable content.

    Third, you want a catchy title on things everyone wants to read. My hubs don't go that far usually because they're particularly niche markets. The highest trafficked ones are usually on things everyone wants, like how to earn millions by watching TV.

    Fourth, advertise on your own. If you have a facebook, twitter, forums, another blog, be cross-posting to get more readers. My facebook draws in a lot of readers to my hubpages, and I have colleagues who cross-post my hubs if they pertain to their businesses.

    I would say I have a lot of blogs no one really comments on them. But have heard that to have a successful blog: know what you  are talking about, involve your readers, your page not bright but where people would go and read and comment on your page.
