How do you get rid of writers block?

I've always been drawn to writing but some years ago I had a tragic auto accident. Ever since when I sit down to write my mind becomes blocked up. Is there any advise that can help me break down this wall that was built in a matter of milliseconds?

I like brainstorming a list of words and using them to create a composition; I typically use that more for poetry than anything, though I've written prose using it as well.  If you already have an idea of what you'd like to write, you might be able to jot your thoughts down in an outline form and connect the ideas with paragraphs.

I have a Hub that goes over a few writing exercises if you'd like to take a look.  It gives some info on further reading resources as well.  I have some info up on various literary devices as well.

Good luck with your writing!  I know it can be awfully hard to sit there staring at a white void.

Wow, I'm really sorry about the accident and its consequences!

Yours is a different case: usually I tell people that writer's block doesn't exist, and the more they believe that the more writing will get done. My other short answer is to sit there and don't let your pen/pencil/keyboard stop moving for 15 minutes at least and you'll be on to something by then. There's a helpful video in a hub I wrote about writer's block (not existing) that you might want to check out, too. Very good luck! Keep us posted! (And don't stop writing--it'll come back to you!!)
