Book cover for a self published book
Where is the best place to have a cover made for an e book? Apparently even a self published book for the kindle should have an amazing cover.
I don't think there is a best place. Each author will have his/her own criteria. I used an original photograph for a book cover, one I took for the purpose. Another book soon to be published will have an old family photo for the cover.
A lot of self publishing services offer some sort of alternative. Most of them cost extra money to get a cover made, though they do produce some impressive artwork. However, a few will be nice enough to give you a tool to build your own, or the proper dimensions to make it in a photo editing program like photoshop. I wrote an article about how to make your own ebook cover, though it is primarily for users who are familiar with those kinds of programs.
This is my book designer's site. His name is Derek Murphy, and he mostly does e-book covers. He has many samples to see on his site, and they are awesome! http://bookcovers.creativindie.com/
You are right MaximumFatLoss...his covers are amazing! Thanks so much for the link.
Your welcome, healthylife2. You won't regret using him. He will work with you until you feel 100% on your cover.
As one who had a novel published without a decent cover, I can't emphasize enough how important it is. It's the first thing people see - and while we say we can't judge a book by its cover, we most often do...at least initially. I like Hyphenbird's idea of suppling a photograph that you took, or an old family photo.
Hi, my designer is Rochelle J Sanchez. Here is her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/rochellejsanchez. She's very, very talented and very, very reasonably priced (she's trying to make a name for herself). She's extremely professional and will work with you until you are satisfied. Please give her a try!
I do all my self publishing through create space and swear by it. You will be able to get a print version too if you go through them and they have a cover creator that helps make your books' covers professional. I would not use anyone else! I have all my covers on my website - www.erinlgeorge.org and you can check them out if you are interested. In the meantime, I'm thinking give cover creator a try on create space so you can at least play with ideas there - even if you aren't going to publish with them (which is totally free by the way unless you order print copies).
Thanks so much for that helpful information cRe8tiVeLiFe! I will try using it since it is free and I have several people in the house that are good with technology. I will definitely check out your website.
ALSO, healthy life, you won't even need tech help with that. i'm HORRIBLE with technical stuff and had no trouble. createspace talks you right through it. i must sound like an ad for them, ha ha ;-)
With me you have some serious competition at being horrible with technical stuff-LOL! Good to know it's easy even for the "technically challenged"

I recently published a book using Lulu.com. The next step is to market it so others might discover it with the hope of building sales. Lulu offers marketing along with editing and other services to help in this effort all at a cost. Marketing a self published book is...

Hiya,I just signed up to Hubpages today (because I only just found it!) and I'm looking to start reviewing books on here. I was going to start with a few of my favourites simply because I think they're a good place to really get my creative juices flowing, then I'd want to move onto more unknown...

What is your view about the cover of a book? Is it very important?

I just finished compiling a book related to American History. Now I am starting to look into publishing items, and from what I can tell, self-publishing in electronic form may be the best bet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What does it take to self-publish a book/novel?I have been considering self-publishing my work for some years now. I would like some advice from people who have self-published before.

All of the covers are from websites where the designer adds your author name and book title after you've purchased it. I'm uncertain which to get, so may I ask your opinion? Which of these covers, A, B, or C, do you like the most for a fantasy short story?
