Is the art of writing dead and gone from most of pop culture?
No, good writing will never go out of style. Any perception of losing the art probably comes from over-saturation. More people in the world plus easier ways to publish equals a flood of content. There's more bad writing on the market and good writing has become harder to find. But it does still exist.
No, I don't think so, Warren. I belong to a group of writers who are all passionate about the art of writing. In talking to people, I have found an amazing percentage of them write, not necessarily for publication but for their own satisfaction. As long as there are people passionate about words there will always be writers.
No, I see that it is very much alive. The problem is that the practice of reading has seriously declined. The ratio these days of professed writers to readers must be something like 2000 to 1.
I don't think it was ever truly a part of pop culture to begin with. I think pop culture values other things far more than the art of writing.
