What do you specifically look for in an author or work of fiction/non-fiction?
Obviously the story has to interest you, but I'm talking the nit and grit details, if any. It could be anything down to their character, or the way they use slang.
I like to be a part of the main characters thoughts. Show me where the story is going. Paint a good picture of the surroundings and avoid telling me anything. I want to be lead the entire journey. Action packed adventures keep the story going forward and avoids the reader getting bored before the final complex. Western dramas are my favorites as well as true stories and biographies about interesting people.
