The more a person is unable to change himself, the more he will push others to change.

    My opinion:
People with less will power asks others to change and feels like others need to be changed. They don't work on themselves because in their opinion everyone else can be wrong, but they can't be.

How many of you agree ?

When we are ready - at God's choice hour - to ask the question as to who we are ... the meaning or purpose to life, we will begin to follow the tenants or scripture:

Prayer (Salat), both vocal and silent. Meditation, (Zhikr) selfless giving, gratitude ... devotionals like singing, chanting/sutras/slokas/mantras ... which ever is your spiritual bent. Then Grace itself, as it is doing now, will continue to teach you even faster.

I will say, though, that whatever you see without, is within you and the transformation of human nature, takes place within. Adversity, in whatever form, is merely a catalyst, helping you to do so. Look within, for you are Spirit.

Ambition is necessary for the rich man and in the same way, 'longing' is crucial to the devotee of Light. If you wish to swim, you will have to get into the water. Jazak Allahu Khairan

Willpower is overrated Misbah. Too many people get into the wrong groove that by having extraordinary will power one can move mountains and do anything. This is impractical as will power is a finite resource.

If you want to change yourself, do it bit by bit, one small step at a time. Finish a small step, get that feeling of a tiny victory, and then move to the next step. It is all a matter of consistency. Taking baby steps consistently and purposefully is the only way to achieve that big fat hairy objective that you have in mind.

Change need not be one drastic one, it can also be a series of small incremental steps accomplishing the core objective.

Ravirajan, I do agree that transformation of nature is a very slow process, but the inner will is necessary. Do not ask me about that of the 'restless' mind, but the inner will comes from something deeper, and is very necessary for spiritual growth.

Very detailed and impressive answer RaviRajan but do you believe people who want others to change needs to change themselves too.

My sweet MIsbah, do not look at it that way, if you can. Change your angle of vision. The challenges, if there be any, is not outside you, but within. For me, you are already Divine, but you need to feel this yourself. Avoid blame where you can. Life is like a mirror, showing your where you are, no one else. Masha'llah.

It depends on the situation Misbah. We always want others to change for the best but we forget that maybe we also need to change sometimes.

But again change is not always required. If you believe that you do not need to change and believe that you are the best version of yourself, so be it. Don't change just for the heck of changing. That is it!!

That can often be the case, Misbah. Some people do think it is easier to try to make others change rather than themselves. In a similar vein, the things they complain about in others are the same things they hate about themselves.

A valid, short and sweet answer Jodah, I agree

I am not telling will power is not necessary manatita. But depending only on will power is foolishness.

Transformation requires a steady fulfillment of small, measurable goals that finally culminates into the major objective of transformation. It is like playing soccer and becoming a good player. You cannot transform yourself into a soccer player by will power alone. What you need is a step by step goal-oriented strategy that helps you to succeed.

    Thanks a lot Manatita,
I agree with what you said,"the inner will comes from something deeper, and is very necessary for spiritual growth."
    That's the point
You yourself first have to see who needs change actually you or the other person, if your inner tells you it's you who need corrections then just go for it.
    Sending Blessings
