I've started to listen to audio books and I think it is good idea, but I need to know if anyone of you experienced listening audio books. Does that help improve your English? If so what would you suggest me to do?

Yes, listening to audio books really helps improving my English.
      My suggestions are,

-try to speak mimicking the words from the audio
-listen to not just audio books but also English music as songs can be easily absorbed in the mind
-have fun and don't be shy to speak those words loudly even if you sound funny

Well I am a native speaker of English, but having taught myself other languages I can say that it definitely does help listening to audio books or indeed the radio in that language.  Also, I have a severely autistic brother with learning difficulties who can't talk but I have noticed that when we listen to audio books (children's ones with lots of noises and different voices) together, he often tries to mimic the sounds and says things afterwards, although we often can't understand him.
