Lost Baby Chipmunk
Silly little chipmunk~
Silly wee thing~
Sleeping where you stand~
I wonder if you are alright~
Why won’t you run if you can?
Tiny baby chipmunk~
I come close to you~
Waiting for you to dart fast~
But nothing do you do?
Infant chipmunk~
You seem to wearily move~
Closer to me~
Than I move away afraid~
Of what you are about to do~
I am now too shy to engage.
Lost baby chipmunk~
Where is your mother? ~
Maybe you think it is me? ~
But I am not~
I am a species of another.
Sleepy baby~
As I leave~
You follow me and cuddle close~
I do think you are confused~
As you dreamily snuggle to my feet~
Oddly I do find it very sweet.
I know to run away~
Hoping you are Ok~
So your real mom can find you~
To collect you~
For your proper nappy place.
I gaze on from my front porch~
To see if you wake up to find~
Your real mother looking for you~
Praying for your safety all the time.
Alas you perk up to join with~
Another sibling on the scene~
You both partake playing hide and go seek~
Amongst the nooks and crannies in the old stone wall~
I can hear both of your little peeps.
Next you both taking what you think refuge~
Under the violet leafs that have now grown tall and big~
Like the safety of little umbrellas shading from the sun~
I see you both again fall fast asleep~
Now that you had so much fun.
Silly little chipmunks~
Silly wee things~
Sleeping where you stand~
I wonder if you will be alright~
As I leave you in GODS hands.
