The Perfect Cushion: Based On Real Events
How Do Us Readers Spend Our Summer?
Cozying up to a good book! Like many of you avid readers, such as myself, I look for something fresh and intriguing when I pick out a title to read. I don't want to be bored with, basic literature, from a basic author, preferring instead, an author that's going to cross some lines, bridge some barriers and hurdle some fences, telling stories that no one else will tell. When I stumbled onto the book trailer of Emerald Wilson-Bey's new book on IGTV on Instagram this week, "The Perfect Cushion: Based On Real Events" , my book reader meter went off!
As spectacular as the book trailer was, I was initially apprehensive, because as you may recall, this is the same Emerald Wilson-Bey, who wrote that, shady memoir four years ago about a tryst she had with Mike Shouhed, from Shahs Of Sunset on Bravo Television Network.
But still, I watched the trailer repeatedly until I realized there was an actual website for the book, and then I went to that, there was also a blog set up on the website, where other readers had begun a light conversation, and Emerald had added an entry a couple weeks back.
First thing I love is the "based on real events" factor. Much of what we enjoy in today's world is real, to us anyway, with our overdose of reality television, true crime shows like, First 48 and Forensic Files, it's human nature to want to hear other people's business, even if it includes pretty horrific stuff!
This book seems to offer a dynamic story, that involves some racial prejudice, some incest (I gather from a review I found online), some incidents involving law enforcement, some death (as there is a funeral depicted on the book trailer) , there's a chapter called "HIV" , which I haven't seen in a book, (definitely looking forward to reading that chapter and seeing it's relation to the characters), and finally, the book's press release has phrases like, the characters "have something in common" that they have to "learn to live with".
I encourage you to go out and grab a copy of this book or download it on July 13th! Or if you are like some people I know, you can wait for my official review article. I will be doing a full review about this book, after I read it of course. Do checkout the book trailer at http://www.theperfectcushionbook.com , I promise you, you do not want to skip reading this book, from what I can tell so far. I attempted to reach out to the publisher for permission to post the trailer here but I have not heard back as of yet. But definitely, check it out! #ThePerfectCushionBook
