Chapter 18
Another day, Matt, the artist, showed up to start painting my ceiling. He looked less dapper, but still cute in a V-neck t-shirt and jeans. After we exchanged small talk, he set up a ladder and got to work. Later, I offered him some coffee, but he waved me off. I tried interrupting him a few times, but he always seemed too caught up with his work and didn’t seem interested in getting to know me at all. I shrugged and went into the kitchen to continue working on the training manual and rules I was writing for my employees. I had to finish it before next week when training would start.
Someone knocked on my building’s door. Of course Matt was too busy to open it, so after a few too many knocks, I went to answer it.
“Oh. Hey, Josh.”
“You disappointed?” he nearly laughed.
“No, but you could have come in without knocking,” I smiled back.
“Hey,” he lifted his hands up, “I didn’t want to come in without permission; interrupt Ms. Coffee herself,” he gave me an attractive side grin.
“Come right in, Mr. Books,” I said playfully.
We immediately launched into friendly chatter that included talking about books and coffee flavors, but Matt quickly put a stop to that.
“If you want me to get any work done around here, you’re going to have to lower your voice!”
“What’s wrong with Mr. Grumpy?” Josh whispered, and I covered my mouth and giggled, while we made our way into the kitchen.
