My Take on Fiction
My Morning View
Writing, what does it do for you?
What does writing do for you?
Well, I can only guess what it does for you, but I can tell you that for me. It does a lot.
I write because it makes me feel good, because my mind can wonder and go to places most of us only daydream about. I've found great relief in writing when I was angry. No, I don't write angry things, just thoughts. Thoughts about why, when, where, how, what. You would be surprised at how much that helps the anger and hurt to dissolve and understanding to come to light.
My favorite writing is to just make a bunch of stuff up, create a story, a tale, a poem, any ol thing my mind comes up with. jot it down, scribble it on a napkin, it doesn't matter, just get it out.
Now to create a good flowing story, well that takes a little more work. I just write down the basics of my idea, then go back in and pick and piece it all together until it flows, flows, flows.
Sounds pretty basic and it is, if you can keep your butt at the computer long enough to hang with it. That's the problem most of us have, see we can all write if we try. The key, is being able to stick with the story over and over again until it becomes a story that other people would like to read.
Now on that note, it is most enjoyable to have people who love to have your stories read to them. I get involved with a story and put it off as long as I can, its the revising that's a drag, but when I picture the look on my loved ones faces when I have finished reading my latest story to them and the twist takes them completely off guard. Its all worth it and I find myself wanting to write more.
So here we are thinking, huh, what could I write about? Then your mind draws a blank. Funny huh. Some of us day dream all day long, any time our minds are idle we find ourselves wondering off into daydream land. But ask the question. What can I write? And your mind goes blank. Well, thats normal. You either go blank or get flooded with so many ideas that you cant keep your mind on just one. Many writers suggest that whenever an idea pops into your mind, jot it down, doesnt matter on what just jot it down and when you get home place them in a folder so you can go back to them later. They call them prompts. There are many books out there packed full of story ideas. I find the best ones come from me though.
I enjoy writing mystery, suspense, romance type stories. I am currently posting hubs on some of my first stories. I can tell when I reread them, that they are my first stories and I am making some revisions as I post them.
This article is also a work in progress that I will continue adding to as often as I can, so keep checking on me. you never know I just might post that killer story that you've been waiting for.
