Silk Bedding

Bedding is something that few people stop to seriously consider, but they should. After all, we do spend around one third of our time alive on our beds. You may not think it matters, but the quality of our bedding really does reflect on our lives. If you have a rash that never seems to go away, it could of course be an allergy you’re aware of, or it could also the material of your beddings that’s causing your reaction. Yes, really. Or maybe your bedding tears easily and you regularly have to replace your sheets and pillows. With silk bedding, on the other hand, you will no longer need to worry about this. So, what is silk bedding anyways? And what is Silk THX?

What is Silk Bedding?

Simply put, silk bedding is bedding made from silk. The most common type of silk bedding is a silk comforter set. This is a kind of bed covering, which is becoming more and more popular in the west. Silk bedding is lightweight, but despite not weighing as much as other bedding types, it also provides warmth.

Silk is produced from the cocoons of the silkworm, which gets its nutrients from mulberry trees. 100% mulberry silk is what you should look for when searching for silk bedding products to purchase as this is the highest quality silk available. Other types of silk, such as the Habotai silk, are made up of broken strands of silk and the products produced from these types of silk aren’t nearly as durable.

Who Uses Silk Bedding

Originally, silk bedding was only used in China, since that is where it originates. Now, however, silk bedding is available anywhere in the world and is becoming increasingly popular in the western hemisphere. Silk bedding is for you if are ready to take your sleeping experience to the next level with a one-time investment. Although silk bedding is comparably more expensive than the average kinds of bedding that people buy, I strongly believe that it is worth it. It is much more durable than cotton, for example and the texture is just amazing. Silk sheets are the softest sheets I’ve ever had and I would say that they’re even comfier to sleep on than the beds at 5-star hotels.

Comparing silk bedding to other bedding

Silk Bedding vs regular bedding

The above image illustrates the benefits of choosing silk bedding over beddings composed of other materials

Breathing

We spend a considerable amount of our lives on our beds, so it is vital to have quality material to spend that amount of time on. Silk provides for amazing breathability of your body. Opting for silk bedding will mean that your skin will have a chance to breathe. This is especially advantageous for hotter climates, where sweating during the night is more common. Silk bedding will not force your body to suffocate in its own sweat while you sleep.

Hypoallergenic

Once again, silk bedding scores highest for this aspect. This means that it is extremely unlikely for consumers to experience a hypoallergenic reaction when using silk products. This is very good news for those who have very sensitive skin and are prone to developing rashes and skin irritations when they come into contact with new materials.

Warmth

Silk bedding is exceptionally warm, which means that it is a good choice for those living in colder climates as well. Along with it’s breathability, the material’s warmth makes it the perfect choice for year-round bedding.

Lightweight

Silk bedding is warm, but that doesn’t mean that it needs to be a pain to carry around. Silk bedding is exceptionally lightweight, which greatly simplifies the transportation process, as well as the effort required for changing the sheets.

Durability

Although silk materials are a bit on the expensive side, you can be sure that they will last a while. 100% mulberry silk is highly durable and isn’t as prone to damage as cotton, for example. All that you need to do to keep your silk in top conditions is take good care of your products and clean them properly.

Below are some recommendations based on my personal experience

4 Piece Bedding Sheet Set

This set includes a regular sheet, a fitted sheet and 2 pillow shams, which are basically fancy pillowcases. Several sizes are available, depending on the kind of bed you have.

Sleeping on silk sheets is probably as close as I’ll ever get to feeling like royalty in my own home. Of course, it’s so comfy that I often have trouble getting up in the morning, something that I’d never have had to worry about, were I a royal. These are the sheets that I currently use on a regular basis, except for when I’m washing them. Silk bedding is perfect for regulating temperature, so I don’t have to freeze to death while sleeping in the winter or cook in my sleep in the hot summer.

These are also simple to clean in the washing machine. Just make sure that you use a gentle cycle and don’t dry these sheets in the washing machine. The material is fairly delicate, so make sure to keep your cat’s sharp claws away, if you happen to have a furry family member!

Silk Eye Mask

I used to never sleep on planes and would always arrive at my destination looking horrible and extremely sleep-deprived. You know those eye masks that airlines sometimes provide on long haul flights? I became convinced that these get repackaged and redistributed if people leave theirs on their seat. I found a curly black hair (I have straight brown hair) in a closed eye mask package during a flight and decided to ditch these for good. It’s not like they helped, anyways.

Things changed when I realized that the same place that sold me my silk bedding also sells eye masks, made of silk, of course. The price wasn’t even that much, compared to regular eye masks. I paid less than 8 bucks for mine when I got it during THX Silk’s discount season! And believe it or not, but I actually get some shut-eye on international flights now. What is most surprising about this eye mask is that it doesn’t leave elastic marks on my head when I take it off. This silk mask does exactly what it was meant to do: it blocks out the light, like any good eye mask should do and it’s comfortable to use, like any silk product should be.

Silk Travel Sleeping Bag

As you all know, I am an avid traveler and as much as I strive to be a minimalist, I love comfort. Of course, I don’t carry my pillow around; I can pile up some sweaters and make a makeshift pillow if I need it. And nor do I have a 100% Mulberry silk sleeping bag. But I wish I had one. The sensation can be described as laying on paradise with paradise all around you. It’s like having having your silk sheets wrapped all around you. However, a sleeping bag like this is too delicate to carry around with me when I’m backpacking. And besides, I feel much safer laying out my 15 dollar sleeping bag from Paraguay at backpacker hostels.

I knew I had to have this beauty when I saw it. So I bought it as a Christmas present for my sister last year. This way she too can feel like royalty when sleeping and I can go “indoor camping” when she’s not around. My sister isn’t as obsessed with traveling as I am, so she usually lays this sleeping bag on top of her regular sheets and sleeps like a princess. She does sometimes steal my silk sheets for extra comfort and thinks I never notice. This sleeping bag is similar to the silk bed sheets in terms of material and care. It is temperature-regulating, super lightweight and compact. I clean it in the washing machine along with my other silk products.

Why Choose Silk THX

As you now know, silk products have numerous obvious advantages. The products are lightweight and compact, but that doesn’t hinder their ability to retain heat in winter months and offer superb breathability during the summer. The material is also extremely durable, so your initial investment will pay off.

What you need to pay attention to, though, is the delicacy of silk and take proper care of your products when washing then. And of course, keep in mind that silk was created for humans, not animals, but who knows… maybe there’ll be a silk collar or a silk coat available sometime in the future.

New Customer Promotion

Who doesn’t like a good discount when shopping? And it doesn’t have to be something huge, either. I get happy when I’m able to buy 10 popsicles for the price of 9, so any discount is good enough for me. What makes me even more likely to buy something is seeing “free X with purchase”. Silk THX offers both: a 10% new customer discount AND a free gift with every purchase over 100 USD. I’d tell you what it is, but I think that some things are better off as surprises, especially when it’s something that is bound to impress you! Final Thoughts

My first experience with silk products wasn’t with Silk THX; it was some Egyptian silk scarves my grandma owned that I used to play around with. She had scarves with all kinds of designs: beach scenes, random patterns and my favorite, the “leopard”. However, what stood out the most to me about these scarves at the tender age of 5 was their texture. And I remember asking my grandma if she can make a bed made of silk for me so that I can be a princess. She just laughed and told me that I don’t need to cover myself with silk to be a princess. Well, she was wrong. Collapsing on my bed covered with silk sheets I bought from Silk THX makes be believe the contrary: I silk does make me a princess, at least when I’m falling asleep.

A friend of mine told me about Silk THX a couple of years back after I had an amazing sleep when I stayed over for the night and just NEEDED to know where they bought their bed. Turned out it wasn’t the bed that did the trick, but the sheets. I didn’t believe that thin layers of cloth could play such a big difference in the quality of my sleep. Well, I guess that now I do.
