Cuisinart Keurig Single Cup Coffee Brewer, coffee maker

Updated on January 13, 2011

Coffee making cannot get any more sophisticated then this: the new product that combines the great qualities of Cuisinart products with the advanced technology of Keurig. These 2 companies have collaborated to make a single cup coffee maker that can produce a hot or a cold beverage in less then 60 seconds. To my knowledge, this product has been on the market for less then one year but has already generated enthusiasm. It is great for people who use single serve method for their morning cup and enjoy drinking fresh brewed coffee. What make it really unique is its cold drinks feature that can eliminate the need for other kitchen appliances, specially in the hot summer days.

Types of beverages

Hot Coffee, hot tea, hot cocoa, cold coffee and cold tea

Lots of people are used to single serve brewing system but not everybody has experienced making a coffee with an one cup machine. This coffeemaker is packed with high technology and promise to deliver a great coffee. Is works with small amounts of coffee specially packed in capsules, disks or pods, according to the brand. Called K-cups, T-discs or coffee pods, this small packages of coffee are premesured for the size of the cup desired.

The Cuisinart Keurig Single Cup Coffee Brewer takes K-cups. This small capsule can be bought almost everywhere, in grocery stores or online through the manufacturer's website or other affiliates.

This coffee maker has a special filter-basket, called My K-cup, that can be filled with the coffee of our choice.

Also, the Cuisinart Keurig can make tea or cocoa or even soup and iced beverages like iced tea and iced coffee through cold brewing.

What is BPA

BPA is an industrial chemical utilized in plastic products. The U.S. FDA and other regulatory agencies from around the world say that the use of BPA is not harmful to people. However, there are some concerns that this chemical affects the brain and prostate gland in fetuses, infants and young children.

How to use it

It is recommended to rinse your Cuisinart Keurig single cup brewer before using it for the first time.

Just follow the instructions listed in the user's manual: place a cup on the tray, lift the handle and open the brewing section making sure it's empty then close it, press the rinse button. The machine will dispense 4 oz of hot water. The display unit will show rinse cycle for a minute before going away.

Always make sure you select the right size cup you want to brew. Also have patience with this machine otherwise it may get confused if to many options are selected and may need to be reset (from the turn on/off button).

To brew your own coffee you have to use My K-cup filter which has its own storage place located on the right side of the brewer. Again, it has to be rinsed and dried before first use. Then the filter is placed in the cup holder and filled with coffee of your choice, making sure the grounds remain below the top of the mesh and the rim is clean. The holder then goes into the brewing chamber.

Pros and Cons

Most people that both this single cup coffeemaker say that it makes a very good coffee. Other qualities they listed are: easy to use, easy to clean through the rinse option, BPA free, quiet brewing, multiple size choices, large reservoir, the iced beverages feature. Some of them also praised the look of Cuisinart Keurig with its contemporary style and color.

Few people were dissatisfied with the quality of brewed coffee, saying that it is not as strong as they expected even if they choose a small size cup, which basically means that it takes less water for the same amount of coffee. The main problem that seems to raise concerns was the pump unit. Several customers have complained that their machine have failed due to a malfunction of the pump. The good news is that Cuisinart Keurig comes with a 3 years warranty. So far, the good have outstanding the bad in customers satisfaction.

The Cuisinart Keurig Single Cup Coffee brewer can be bought online through multiple retailers or direct from Cuisinart or Green Mountain Coffee website. Some online stores are offering significant discounts along with free shipping. It can be also found in some stores, also not all of them will have it due to its higher then average price.

i have a just out of warranty, 3 year old, 4-cup cusinart coffee maker that believe the pump has gone - heats water

but won't pump it up to the spout

why can't cusinart offer simple parts for homeowners to repair themselves

the landfill is so full of these plastic and other discards

going back to my good old glass pyrex perculator for good hot coffee with no moving parts to fail - simplicity is the answer

I have both Keurig and Cuisinart K cup machines...

About me... I am an embedded systems design engineer and know about control systems and such.

Food processing products should only use parts ( components ) in the water / control systems - internal to the coffee maker - that are "fit for purpose" as designed to be use with WATER.. as a coffee maker uses water.

I have opened several of my failed Keurig and Cusinart K cup machines and found that they are using an AUTOMOTIVE Market Pneumatic Solenoid Valve made in China.. part number SH-V0829...Google this number if you want to check and see this. It is designed for auto seat cushon inflation and has a built in LEAK RATE of 1CC/Min at 4 PSI for air compresser unloading used in seat cushon inflation systems. It is NOT WATER PROOF and DRIPS inside the coffee makers in the transformer and the air pump near the bottom getting the electric motor wet and make it smoke.. My coffee maker was way too young to smoke .. hahha just a joke..

The folk that make this coffee maker IN CHINA think most folk are too stupid to find out about their use of cheep and unfit for purpose components inside their coffee maker. I have attached a DOOR and Hinge on the back of one of my coffee makers that I keep repaired personally.. and buy the replacement control solenoids on ebay to keep my coffee maker working.... THIS SUCKS..... I was ripped off...

I did not pay for a rusty solenoid that leaks water inside my $250.00 coffee machine. When I call Keurig... they do talk some but avoid the topic of this solenoid.. just reading a standard reply statement... When I talk to Cuisinart.. they have nothing to say but want my $10 for shipping a replacement unit... also with the same defective solenoid inside of the same type and part number...

I want to like my coffee maker.... but I do not like being treated like a fool ...

My old Mr Coffee has very nice insides... good design.. and lasted a long time... I am wanting to see Mr Coffee make a K cup that I would like... Cuisinart and Keurig are only about making money .. and not delivering INTERNAL quality of their product with this machine.. They come from the SAME China factory...and they are made using non water proof - no O ring - air only - pneumatic solenoid valves... The part numbers are on the side of the solenoid if you care to open up your machine and look... Do not have it plugged in if you do.. safety first..

I hope you like having RUSTY water in your hot water for making tea and coffee.... the solenoid does rust internally as it is only for air usage...not made for water exposure...

I have photos and also plan to use this experince in a control system class I teach at a University as an example of poor ethics in business manufacturing...

I need not say how MAD I am over this discovery .....and the lack of interest from the folks that make this product..

Barnum and Bailey.. a sucker is born every minute... that must be their motto..

I must be a sucker... THAT SUCKS

What's News thank you for stopping. As you said, 4 stars is a lot but it is a new product and the combination of Cuisinart and Keurig gives it some kind of aura. I, personally, like it very much.

      Thanks for commenting.

A 3 year warranty - well that sounds good! I'm in the market for something like this. I like to entertain - and it would be great with a small group if someone just wants a cup of coffee or whatever.

I love your coffee hubs! Rated up!

Hi De Greek, and thank you for stopping by. I think you are right but lately they manage to come up with a newer models of single cup coffeemakers that are making a better coffee. And they'll probably keep improving them. I think that part of the problem is the quality of coffee sealed in k cups or pods.

And Yes, I got the badge last week, thank you, it is beautiful and glows.

For some reason, the home size coffee makers do not produce the quality of professional machines. :-)

Did you receive the blazer badge yet, or not? :-)
