Why Use Candles?

Candles are a creative means of decorating your home. Tables, book shelves, even window sills can provide a perfect spot for a candle or two, or more. The color choices for candles are as varied as the scents now available on your store shelves. Choose the candle color to complement your decor and a pleasing scent to fill your home.

Candles can be small or large. Candle holders vary in size and style. I often choose my candle holder based on where I place the candle. What surface am I protecting and what type of holder would look best in that special location.

Decorating a candle or candle holder is fun. Tie a ribbon around the candle or its holder for color or attach an ornament to dress it up. You can modify these decorations with the Holidays or Seasons. Red ribbons are perfect for Christmas while a Fall Color will enrich your candle or holder for Autumn. Have fun and be creative!

For Your Dinner Table or Coffee Table

Candles add romance and atmosphere to any room. A centerpiece of candles will compliment the dining atmosphere and add charm to your table. Choose a decoration based on your table size and the amount of light that you desire.

Surround your candle centerpiece with greenery for added color. A scarf woven around the base of your candles will add festivity to your table. Try a string of pearls or other decorative item to add creativity to your arrangement.

A candleabra can dress up your table and add a special touch. Use two for a large dinner table. An entry hall table will be welcoming with a candleabra.

Parties

Candles are very effective decorations for showers, parties or dinners. Add a candle or several to set a mood for your event. Place them on the table and around the house. Don't forget to decorate the bathroom where a candle, fancy hand towel and special bar of soap will add much to welcome your guests. The ladies will love tea lights at a shower or birthday event. Decorate these small candles with a bow! Use colorful string instead of ribbon! Try something new.

Christmas Candles

Decorating with Christmas candles is always fun! An arrangement of candles on the coffee table or on the fireplace can be especially festive and special. Use reds or greens for this festive season, but don't forget the white candles too. White candles are popular year round. A colorful bow can dress up a white candle and complement any decor year round.

Mixing Candles With Other Decorative Items

Candleholders can be mounted on the wall. These are an excellent means of completing a wall decor. Tired of artwork on every wall, try a wall mounted candle.

Candles were not meant to stand alone. Add other interesting decorative items to compliment your candle. Vary the heights and sizes of these items. A large pillar candle with smaller items around is appealing. Reverse this and add smaller candles around a larger piece of decor. You can use items already in your home. Rearrange them and add a candle here and there to add interest to your decorating. Most of all, have fun adding a fresh touch to your home with candles!
