Choose a Leather Glider Rocker Recliner for Comfort

Updated on October 20, 2016

There are so many great things about a leather glider rocker as a stylish and elegant piece of furniture in your home that is also comfortable and so easy to relax in.

Leather is hard to beat when it comes to comfort. Real leather matches your body temperature, adjusting to it in around 20 seconds. So it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter!

A well made quality leather glider is a piece of furniture that will last a lifetime, if you look after it. Leather is one of those materials that gets better with age, in fact the more worn and "used" it is, the more attractive it often looks!

Then there is the comfort factor. Nothing compares to the wonderful feeling of sinking into leather glider cushions!

How To Find the Best Leather Glider Chair For You

The best way to work out what leather glider is best for you (and your budget) is to do lots of research. Find out as much as you can about the items you are considering. The key to this is reading reviews. To get you started, here is my pick of chairs available to suit all budgets and requirements.

Leather Rocker Recliner from Flash Furniture

For a roomy, comfortable chair that looks like a traditional armchair but which has the twin bonus of being both a recliner and a rocker this brown leather rocker recliner from Flash Furniture makes a great choice (see link below). Choose to use the seat in the upright position or partly or fully reclined. It has lovely thick cushions covered in good quality leather. Some assembly is required on this item but all reviewers say it is very easy to do. Definitely recommended if you want a supremely comfortable living room chair or even a chair to nurse your baby in (please see my hub on glider chairs for the nursery for more options).

Budget Priced Swivel Leatherette Glider Chair and Ottoman

For a budget-priced glider chair that is more compact, comes with an ottoman AND swivels, glides and reclines, you probably will not do better than this leatherette (faux leather) covered chair.

Reviewers state that it is easy to assemble with pictorial instruction and that it has a very smooth gliding action. It has thick padded arms, useful side pockets for storing newspapers and magazines and wonderfully soft, thick cushions.

Once you have reclined to the position you want, just lock the chair in place with the side lever and you can continue to glide and rock in your chosen position.

This glider is a great value piece of furniture for living room, study or nursery - or just about anywhere you choose!

Many leather gliders are designed to be used by people who have just had surgery and need a super comfortable, supportive piece of furniture that doubles up as a recovery recliner. For this type of chair, you can expect to pay top dollar, however, those who invest in them rarely regret it! Some of these models are more like high-tech medical equipment than chairs!

Enjoy the benefits of a professional massage anytime you want - the Panasonic Massage Chair (link takes you to the Amazon product page). The model pictured offers a number of massage programs including the benefits of soothing thermal heat. You can get relief from tired aching muscles and enjoy deep relaxation. With the remote control buttons, you can personalize your massage quickly and easily. There is so much to tell about this great chair - why not check out the information on the product page which tells you all you need to know about the operation, options, and benefits of using this chair? (Please take a look at the video provided below).

The electric mechanism allows you to get into a zero gravity position, which cradles your back and elevates your legs above your heart - this is considered by doctors to be the healthiest position to rest in.

At the touch of a button, you can find yourself in the most comfortable, recuperative reclining position. Whether you have had surgery, suffer from back pain or simply want to give yourself the ultimate treat, this type of leather recliner is the most luxurious you will ever come across.

What To Look For In Leather Glider Rockers

As with so many things in life, not all leather chairs are created equal! Generally, genuine leather glider rockers are made of one of four types of leather:

  • Full-grain leather is the highest quality of leather. It does not get buffed or sanded during the manufacturing process to remove natural imperfections. Because the entire grain remains intact, it stays extremely strong and durable. This is also the most breathable grain, meaning it produces less moisture. High quality leather furniture and footwear is normally made of this type of leather.
  • Top grain leather is the second highest quality of leather. This is the top layer of the hide. The manufacturing process removes this from the lower layer, making it thinner and more flexible than full grain leather. The next part of the process is to sand it and after this, a coating is applied to the surface, which means it is less breathable than full grain. On the plus side, it is more affordable than full grain and is more resistant to stains, provided the surface remains intact.
  • Corrected grain leather is the term used to describe leather with an artificial grain on its surface. During the manufacturing process, any flaws in the leather are buffed and sanded. After this, an artificial grain is applied.
  • Split leather is made from the most fibrous section of hide, after the top grain of the rawhide has been removed. It can have an artificial layer applied to its surface and then be embossed with a leather grain. Alternatively, split leather can be used to make suede, via a range of manufacturing techniques.

Leather glider rockers are available in all types of leather, as well as leatherette (sometimes referred to as faux leather). While the most expensive pieces are going to be made of the best quality of leather, that doesn't mean you can't get a glider rocker made of a lower quality leather that will be extremely comfortable and durable.
