Madagascar Orchid Show - In St. Louis Missouri
The Beautiful Orchid Show in St. Louis Missouri
Every year Missouri Botanical Garden puts on another amazing orchid show for the public and its members. This year, the theme is "Madagascar." For 2013, they chose this theme because they are celebrating many years of work they have been doing in Madagascar. Missouri Botanical Garden continues to make a difference around the world for science, nature, and gardens everywhere. In the region of Madagascar, they have done a lot of research and conservation work.
People were encouraged to stop by during this Winter and early Spring season and experience the beauty of Madagascar. They even had a little orchid observer check list for people that like an extra challenge! This is fun for the kids to do also, while their parents are taking in the beauty of the orchids. It is a form of "I spy."
The orchid display every year in Saint Louis is one of the largest in the United States. Even during the show itself, which runs February 2 to March 31st, there is a continuous rotating display of orchids. If you come back a couple of weeks later, you will see some new orchids very likely!
The garden has about 7,000 individual orchid plants which are representative of approximately 280 genera! This also includes over 2,500 unique orchid taxa. I have tried to go every year, and every year I see completely new orchids I am sure I have never seen the likes of before. It is mind boggling the detail and design and beauty they have.
This article is to share the news about this orchid show which many travel to come to every year. It also is to share some of the photos I have captured of the orchids along the way. This year, I had the pleasure of going once with my husband and on another occasion I went back alone a few weeks later to just have a peaceful break in my week and enjoy more orchids I didn't see the first time.
There are many orchids and display photos that I have shared here. To see them up close make sure to click on the images or their thumbnails. There is an option to look at it through a slideshow, and you can click through the images one by one to make sure you see them all.
If you ever get the chance, I would highly encourage you to go and see this amazing show put on by the garden's floral display team. They work hard to make the show happen every year, and have talent beyond measure.
