The Zojirushi Rice Cooker

Updated on February 9, 2015

Zojirushi Rice Cooker NP-HBC18

The Zojirushi 10-cup rice cooker (also available in a 5-1/2 cup model) is able to handle all of your rice making needs; it comes complete with superior induction heating (IH) and micro computer technology that allows for superb induction heating which produces a more even distribution of heat in order to produce rice that is cooked perfectly each and every time.

This rice maker has a variety of different cooking functions which includes three separate settings for white rice alone (regular, softer, and harder), as well as sushi rice, sweet rice, mixed rice, quick cooking and porridge. It also has options for Healthy cooking functions for brown rice as well as GABA brown rice, or germinated brown rice. If you haven’t heard of GABA or germinated brown rice, be sure to read our article on the amazing nutritional benefits of this type of rice preparation. The brown rice and GABA rice features are two of our favorite functions with this model.

The rice cooker comes with a thick black inner cooking pot, a rice paddle, holder and a rice measuring cup. It also has an interchangeable melody and beep system that signals when the cooking cycle has ended, as well as an inner lid that is detachable making it easy to wash and keep clean; this is a definite plus.

One of the best features is its automatic and extended keep warm cycles as well as a timer with two settings so that you can easily pre-program your ricer cooker to start at the desired time. The keep warm feature is a great way to keep rice or porridge warm so that the pot can be left on for late-comers or kids who want a snack later in the day. We keep ours on all the time and it’s an excellent way for the kids to help themselves when they get hungry. We’ve never had it dry out or scorch, and in the morning we simply add milk with a little cinnamon and sugar to any rice that is left in the pot. In a few minutes our leftover rice has been converted into a delicious hot rice cereal. If you have kids, this will quickly become a favorite breakfast dish.

This is an excellent rice maker and it has served our family well, but if I ever get a chance to upgrade, I’ve got my eye on the Zojirushi NP-HTC18 Induction Heating 10-Cup Pressure Rice Cooker and Warmer. This rice maker is great for people who live at high elevations or who like to prepare brown rice that is a little softer. It is a great way to get kids to eat more brown rice! The pressure used in conjunction with the induction heat makes consistently moist and perfect rice. A friend of mine has this rice maker and it is certainly a luxury model - I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these.

The Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 is another popular rice cooker that can cook 5 cups of rice. The Zojirushi NP-HBC10 can cook five and a half cup rice and the best part of this is that it can keep the rice warm up to 48nhours.
