It might depend upon where you live. However where I live there is a major 'rent crisis' it's hard to find a rental property, there is only a 99% vacancy rate, and due to this rent is very expensive. I've bought a house, and it's much cheaper to live in than paying rent. Plus it's already gone up in value, so I have some equity in it which is like having 'savings'.
