Does anyone know how to prevent Sapsuckers (the birds) from killing trees?
The Sapsuckers go around the tree making a zillion little holes until the damage is great enough to kill the tree. I don't want to hurt the birds but I can't think of any way to stop them.
Mrs. Menagerie, I just wrote a hub about fix and preventing woodpecker damage called:
Woodpeckers-How To Fix and Prevent Damage - it might be of some help to you.
It is wise to fix the tree as soon as possible because this bird is rather stubborn. Also, if sap is coming out of the tree bees and wasps will become another worry. Which, will also compromise the tree.
Will a fake owl work?
last resort... a pellet gun?
Sorry I couldn't resist.
